Oil Bypass System - I called Amsoil support

I'd be up for a oil filter relocation, but I would be worried about all the extra points to leak oil from. My first thought was to do one in tandem with a quick-drainl plug of some type or an oil evacuation system through the dipstick. I've since changed my mind and will keep it simple. Simple in regards to extra moving parts. I don't mind changing my own oil and I'll do it as long as I'm able. It is not fun in the cold months here in Michigan, but I find having to find an appointment at the dealer and get there more of a pain.

I am with you. For the time and hassle it takes to change your own oil and dispose of it and the waste plus the get dirty aspect I am more than willing to pay the dealer (or your preferred local shop) to do a service. That way I can add in a tire rotation to help tire life and also not have that hassle.

Yes I had a Honda and with the service coupon oil change cost 30 bucks. I could not buy the supplies for that. But it spoiled me no more crawling under my cars.

Overlooking one important fact. If you have an engine failure while using a bypass oil filtration system, and it is found you did not change the oil on scheduel or factory filter or that your plumbing effected oil flow to engine....you just paid for your own engine replacement. Warranty void.

I keep forgetting that "car guys" come to forums just to make comments like this. It's almost as if there are all kinds of different people in the world. Some people value their time. Some people physically are unable to do it. Some people don't have the tools and good place to do it. Some people don't like going out in freezing weather to lay on the ground and get dirty. And some people just have the money to pay someone else because they can.

I hope you cook every meal yourself from scratch and never hire anyone to provide any service for you ever in your entire life. It must be very rewarding to live on a homestead and build everything from scratch.

Hit the nail on the head man. I have a boat, motorcycle, and some things that go bang that take up a lot of my time. My under warranty car I can pay a place and it's cheap if you plan ahead some. I went though the same thing with fertilizing my lawn. It was 200 dollars more a year paying someone to do it and they aerate at the end of the year. Time + Cost of Equipment + cost of products. Best part is the company is called "WeedMan".

I agree with keep it simple but extra moving parts are not necessary additional point of failure. My reason for oil bypass is the following:
1. Remove oil debris that are between 2-20 microns to prevent premature possible failure consequences of piston rings such as scratches, scuffing and high oil consumption. when 0w20 oil gets hot piston rings glide 3-5 microns over piston wall. with 5w30 it is close to 8-10 microns. in my opinion it is important to get rid of 2+ micron debris, especially for 0w20 oil.
2. I do not plan to do extended oil change. i change my oil every 5k. (with amsoil i may extend it to 7k) in summer i may mix 3/4 - 0w20 and 1/4 - 5w30
3. i use amsoil or Lukas platinum ultra. with purolator one oil filter or amsoil filter.
I will not push an envelop trying to get most of the engine life. i believe good oil, good fuel and adequate cooling is the key to vehicle longevity.

Pretty sure these sytems focus on oil burners (diesels), but maybe sell a few to gas engine users. I think consensus is that gas engines should just change the oil at the normal interval versus install one of these, which people use on diesels to extend oil life.

Oh, ok. I wasn't aware of any filtering benefits. I thought that this system simply relocated the filter to a more accessible location.
