Having trouble finding suitable winter (steel) rims, new or used, in my part of the world (Ottawa)

Has anyone had any luck mounting a set of wheels with a greater offset (50-55mm), which seems a lot more common than the 37.5" on the stock XL's?

Seems like I'll be about 24mm tighter on the inside, according to this calculator:

I think the shop will be able to test when bring it in. I’m in Toronto and most of the steelies quotes I’m getting are for +52/55 offset. One shop is able to get +40 but it’ll be a bit more.

Also, do you plan on re-using the centre cap from your stock XL steel? If so, don’t get new lugnuts or it won’t fit potentially. Alternatively, if you’re not going to use the centre cap, then I’d recommend getting new lugnuts because the stock lugs are meant for being covered (not stainless steel or capped) and look like it won’t hold up to harsh weather well (aesthetics).

Let me know what you go with! I’m most likely going steel but there is slight sway to get alloys.

Thanks for the tip about the lug nuts. I figured I would simply use the stock set without the centre cap, but didn't consider the effects of leaving them exposed over the winter.

I'm starting to think abut getting a set of nicer rims to put the all seasons on, and then use the stock painted rims for the winter tires. Lots of choices with +40-42 offset it seems.

Was able to track these painted steel rims down, and they seem like a reasonable option.

How does the price compare to what your shop was quoting?

The shop I'm getting a quote from is local to Toronto (Joy City Wheels) and unfortunately I don't think they deliver. I can get the +40 offset for $430 taxes included...in general, their prices are hard to beat though. Another online resource that seems pretty good is partsengine.ca (https://www.partsengine.ca/ACTENT1770C40G-vp-Enthuze-921.aspx)

Even their alloys seem really low cost. I'm actually not sure how they are so cheap to be honest

I think I am leaning towards this route though:
-mount winters on the stock XL steelies
-in the spring, look for alloys for the all-seasons.

I think it's worth it to treat ourselves a bit and not have steelies for the full 12 months.
