I have the steelies and been looking on marketplace for alloys. Most in my area are off older Escapes, focus, fusion etc... I saw one of 17" set a guy was selling off a 2017 Escape and it looks like they would be about a 50mm offset vs our 37.5.

What exactly would this do in terms of handling etc...? I guess I understand they might stick out a hair more, but does that cause extra stress anywhere, worries about payload or any other things to consider as I look at other models wheels?

Double check with a wheel offset calculator, but I think a higher offset number means the wheel center sits more 'inside' the wheels well.

with all other things being equal:
- Handling will be a slightly worse since it'll be a narrower wheelbase, but likely so little you won't notice and its a truck not a sports car.
- Visually it'll look a bit worse since the wheels will not be flush with the fender.
- Chances of tire rub will be higher since you are closer to the fender liner and all the components inside the wheel well.
Also keep in mind this is in mm, so its only about half an inch further inside so its easier for you to visualize.

At least based on this calculator it's the opposite
