Dude I an so young and I remember my mom having one and then later the high school kid next door had one. Oh, wait, I am old nevermind.Maverick is a fine name. It conveys the message that this unibody truck is going a different route than the traditional body on frame trucks. It's a legacy name, but at the same time, only really old old timers remember the Maverick cars so it doesn't carry any preconceived notions for most buyers.
This time Ford picked the right vehicle for the nameHonestly the name really turned me off this vehicle.
im old enough to remember what a Maverick was, and would prefer to forget those memories.
but 90% of potential buyers would need to Google it to know and likely wouldn’t understand…
I‘m still torn, is it a truck or did they build a sedan and forget the trunk lid (as I shop for tonneau covers)…
Ranchero seems like a good name to me but again it’s due to age and context, the majority of buyers probably wouldn’t understand or possibly identify with it.
as for Courier I just verped…
End of the day I looked at one, drove it and I’m placing an order on Monday for one so Maverick is good enough of a name for me.
Why are you waiting for Monday? Do it now!Honestly the name really turned me off this vehicle.

I would be all over something like this. Love me some 'wood' paneling. Here's the 88 Grand Wagoneer I'm putting back together in my garage now:Here's an idea. Since they reused the Maverick name from a car why not have a Maverick Country Squire Edition???Imagine it just like this without the roof and rear windows over the back....

Wasn’t the Falcon Ranchero a lower budget predecessor to the Mustang for the sixties? What happened to that left front end there?I questioned that early on myself. My Avatar reflects my history with the Ranchero and it seemed like a no-brainer to revive the Ranchero name vs. Maverick since there are so many similarities to the actual Ranchero vehicle. Much moreso than the Maverick which was a lower budget Mustang like compact Pony car for the masses in the 1970's.
They only do that in AustraliaWhy don't we call Mavericks "utes"?
Is it a car or is it a truck?

For someGreat thread.
I'm an old(er) guy of 50 now and the original Maverick brings back memories of early 70s crud cars, and smog-era gutless turds, so at first I didn't get using the Maverick name again.
My first car was a 67 Camaro, so 60s/very-early 70s cars are where it's at for me. Ranchero would've been a great name, as that was a beautiful looking vehicle. Buddy had an early 60s Ranchero with a Boss 302 engine in it that hauled.
But then I started to think about it more, and really the name doesn't matter much to me, it's what the vehicle can do. Hell, I drive a C-Max, one of the dumbest sounding names there is. I'm fine with Maverick, especially as others have said, it kinda goes against the grain. Could name it Yugo and I'd still buy one just because it's a nicely appointed smaller utility truck.
