I need help. Can’t seem to program the FOB (not key) to use the lock and unlock feature for a 2025 Mav XL.

I bought the generic flip key fob (see picture) on Amazon with the lock, unlock, and panic button. I was able to program the key and transponder so the truck will start and run.

I can’t seem to get the truck into “programming mode” to program the fobs only. I have use multiple instructions (see pictures). For example

1. Press unlock, insert key and turn to run x 8

2. Open and keep door open, press unlock, insert key and turn to run x 8

3. Open and keep door open, press lock then unlock, insert key and turn to run x 8

4. Tried with a turn on wipers variation

5. Tried a few others that I can’t remember

Can someone with a 2025 Maverick help confirm the process?

I feel Ford tweaked and made some changes to the 2025 compared to the prior model with their refresh.

Thanks in advance

Make sure you haven't accidentally programmed four key fobs already. The maximum is four. I have no idea how to check that on a 25 model year.

On my '23 XL, I followed the instructions in the paper user manual and it just worked. IIRC, it was very simple..

There is probably no programming of the fob.
There was NOT on prior MY's.

The fob merely sends the transponder info to the truck wirelessly, the truck confirms that code is allowed to unlock, lock, ect.

But I thought I saw that the wireless frequency changed.

So while you have a transponder logged with truck to be allowed to start it, the fob is probably sending it on the wrong frequency.

Look at existing fobs and see if frequency is listed somewhere, compared to new one.

For those watching this post

Seems like the part number below is the compatible FOB for 2025 model year with 433 MHz transmitter frequency. 315 MHz seems to work with 2024 and prior. I have the XL trim so the key fob has lock, unlock and panic only. See pictures from a key seller website.

164-R8334

I ordered a set of generic keys on eBay for $30. Will take a week to get here.

I confirmed the part number is 164-R8334 from my local dealer for $150.

Also, finally found something I could buy with my Ford points!!

So now be aware of the post earlier, unless 25MY changed something else - there are only 4 available slots for transponder info.
2 original keys.
This incorrect key.
You only have 1 slot available.

Unless you use Forscan, and can delete and recreate the entries.
I don't recall the process allowing deleting 1, had to remove all and add valid ones back.

Thanks for confirming the frequency change.
So TPMS and this. Now the keyless-entry used to be different than non-keyless, wondering if this makes them the same now...

Programming is required for '23 XL fobs. DIY instructions in the '23 user manual.

I bought fobs on eBay, had my locksmith cut the metal keys, and I programmed the fobs myself, using instructions in the user manual.

He was showing instructions for the fob only - he already had the key registered with truck to start it. He did that programming already.

There is no separate fob programming on the truck after what did work.
That's what I was referring to.

There is always a mis-description dealing with keys.
Vast majority of vehicles, the key set - maybe a fob, maybe a lump on a key - needs to have the transponder chip code be registered to the vehicle.
The fob receives nothing, only transmits that transponder code, and the action of the button press.
So there is no programming of the fob strictly speaking on most vehicles - it has it's code already and it ain't changing. Vehicle merely needs to know what it is, and that it's desired to be trusted.

I just came back from the dealership and picked up an OEM key part number 164-R8334 (see actual packaging picture) for my 2025 Maverick XL. I have cheap key cutter and cut the key myself and programmed the new oem key. Everything is working now.

Based on specification data from other websites, the frequency is 433 mhz for this FOB.

In regards to the max key fobs allowed, it’s a bit fuzzy.

Earlier in the week, I added two generic keys with the not compatible 315 MHz transmitter frequency. The key would start but FOB lock and unlock buttons obviously would not work.

Today, I added the correct oem key.

I now have 5 keys that can start the truck (3 oem with 433 MHz and 2 generic keys with 325 MHz)

This is the fuzzy part. I read the replies above and decided to check my keys. When I inserted the second generic key in the car, I did get a message about max learned keys reached or allowed. I set that key aside.

I went back inside to get all keys and started the truck and shifted in Reverse a couple of feet, turn off and open the door to fully shutdown. To my surprise, all 5 keys start the truck up just fine.

I don’t know how each key is stored in a memory slot. My guess is some keys will drop off when you program them.

I think I have the answer. For my 2025 XL, I am able to program 5 keys. Adding any keys beyond that gets the message saying max keys have been learned.

The keys do not drop off. Now I need to figure out how to delete 2 keys that have the 315 MHz transmitter so I can add the 2 generic keys with 433 MHz.

Any help would be appreciated. I ordered the forscan cable for my windows laptop so it’s on the way.

Too funny. Package says 434 Mhz.

But I'm wondering if the product number ending in 334 is purposeful, for the 433 Mhz.

At least now with that picture - anyone searching for a generic can confirm what number it must be compatible with.

Both are potentials - but if the remote works - appears it's actually 434 Mhz.

Thanks for getting the new info back. 25 has 5 slots.
Very nice since I believe the remote keypad takes a slot, just a glorified coded fob basically.

You'll have the right hardware for taking care of problem then. Start here but keep reading the posts that comment on it.

That is a typo on my part. The frequency is 434 MHz for 2025 model years.
