I'm more than 70% highway and have a 4K tow ecoboost awd. A hybrid isn't interesting to me because I do fewer than 10K personal miles and 15-20K business miles, and the gas is paid on business trips. The capability of the vehicle is a lot more important and while a hybrid is certainly useful, I'd rather have AWD, 4k towing, and tremendous ability to pass on 2 lane highways is even more useful.

So yeah, switch. And no guarantees but there are 6 months of production left. You'll probably get a truck but it depends on your dealership's allocations and the options you choose. Order the truck you want & need. Don't settle. But my argument is that, no, you don't need a hybrid.

Called up my salesperson who submitted my order. He's saying if I switch from hybrid to gas he thinks my order will get built soon, but he can't promise anything. My current priority code is 19. Will modifying the order to ecoboost drop it to 10? I've already waited more than 7 months. Should I switch now?
I will need this truck asap.
Hybrid is nice but gas mileage is not that important anymore. I figured, with 70% highway driving, ecoboost probably is only going to cost me $400 more in gas per year.
Plus, if I do switch, I'll be adding the AWD, hoping that's not a restraint. Is it?
AWD will help in winter.
I'm also seriously considering the 4K tow package. It's inexpensive, and being able to tow 4000lb is nice. There's hardly anything that's under 2000lb. My question is, I see there's some travel trailer with GVWR right around 4000lbs, a few even exceed it by 200lbs or so. If I do get this 4k tow package, is it ok to tow a ultra light trailer that's 4100 or 4200lbs? From the engine specs it sounds like this ecoboost truck have enough torque.
I also ordered a Hybrid in Sep 22, XLT w/ sunroof, trailer hitch and splash guards, nothing else. My priority code at the time was 16. Watched a video at the end of Jan 23 where they were saying that due to some constraints, you’re truck just wasn’t going to get built unless you modified your order.
Their suggestion was to remove the constrained items AND add surplus items.

I wanted the hybrid but was willing to lose the hitch and splash guards so in the middle of Feb 23 I went to my dealer and removed those AND added the spray in bedliner and cargo management system (they have a surplus of those). My dealer also changed my priority code to 10.

Two weeks later my priority code was at 7, not sure if that was Ford or the dealer, and then March 16 I received an email from Ford saying my truck was scheduled to be built the week of May 8th. So basically a month after I modified my order, mine was scheduled to be built.

I can’t promise the same thing will happen to you, but it worked for me.

There's basically only 3 more months of scheduling left so if you do decide to switch you will want to do it soon. Even if you get scheduled for September '23, they could roll you into MY24 like they did for MY22 who were scheduled at the end of MY22 when the schedule slipped.

I ordered a Lariat eco on the 2nd day they took orders and I was a 19 priority. still waiting. E mailed the salesman last week about getting the prioriyy changed and he said he would look into it "ASAP", still waiting to hear from him. From my observations it looks like there are more people getting hybrid's than eco's, which were supposed to be a constraint. My guess it's build at random.

Ford has communicated several times that there will not be any order rollover or private offers / pricing guarantee for any MY23 that aren't built.

They said the same thing to Bronco order holders. The slate is clean in MY24, it seems.

"They" as in your dealer rolls over the order by placing it again, like in MY22 (when the rollover process was also not automatic and was dealer initiated, or not). So even if you are scheduled and get a VIN in Aug or Sept, your order may not be built in MY23, like what happened last time. That's why if you are going to change over to an Ecoboost time is of the essence as the only unscheduled months are July, August and September. And getting scheduled in September...may the force be with you.

But you are right, make sure you know:
1. Rollovers have to be initiated by you
2. No price protection
3. No guarantee you even get built in MY24

Not sure it matters, but just to be clear, Tim Bartz's videos were pretty explicit that all their open MY22 orders were recreated by Ford as MY23 and they had to go in to validate, correct any errors, and accept them. They had to manually fix things like the changes to Lariat Lux splitting into several pieces (CP360 Assist) and from posts on this forum it's clear that some dealerships screwed that up because people's MY23 were not as expected. :)

I take Ford's communication to mean that they will not do that. It will be 100% on the dealership to order a new MY24 when banks are open, and some (most?) of them will only do that if the customer asks.

I made the switch from XL Hybrid to XL EB AWD, dropped everything (hitch & SIB) before the price increase and got scheduled right away. So it worked for me. I would do it again just to get a truck this year!

I originally ordered a hybrid then changed to eco boost. Mine was in production in a month. I am very happy with it. Still gets good mileage.

I played the communication-by-email game with my salesman the first few months after my order was placed too, and maybe it’s cause I’m old school, but I decided it would be better if I went to the dealer in-person and talked with them. Going there in person will give you a better feel for how the place is run and their attitude towards you as the customer. Thankfully my dealership, Sheehy Ford of Richmond, VA, has been pretty good through the whole process. But if they weren’t giving me confidence, I’d be looking around for another dealer to place an order for a 2024 model.

Guess my point is, going to your dealer and talking to your salesman in person may give you better results than by email.

ps. I’d ask for my priority code to be moved to 10 or sell ASAP, your dealer can do it if they want.

I've been there to test drive a used one they got in, in early Feb., he said that he thought it would get built in the next month or so. It's a dealer about 1/2-hour drive away. I went with them instead of the one in town a after talking with a salesman here who laughed when I told him I was interested in ordering one when the order bank opened. He also gave me the impression they would mark it up to market price, so I was done there. I can wait, but it gets frustrating. He told me they had ordered about 30 Mavericks, and they had a few come in.

After asking the dealer when the order change drop dead date is the dealer got back in o me and said they changed my order to the eco boost, i added the bed protection and cargo management kit. This is just filling basic transportation needs, I have a full size pickup for towing, the thought was that this can do everything else I need for a while and more hopefully. I preferred the hybrid for my needs but that’s not going to happen.

I’m asking them to change the priority level as well, so I’ll see what happens.

It sounds like the EB would fit your needs better. Ask your dealer about the price increase I believe if you change your trim or powertrain you’re price protected but if you change from fwd to awd you’re not. I changed mine from XL to XLT and my dealer said I’m price protected.
No price protection, I changed from XL - XLT and both prices went up, 3 months later I dropped the $115 full size spare (ordered to match the steelies on an XL) and that RAISED my cost over $200 because the base prices on all three levels went up a few hundred. I am now on the bo oks to be built so no more changes are allowed. To the original poster - if you ordered an XL change it, if you wanted a hybrid forget that too, they cant make either anymore than they originally allotted.

Out of curiosity, were they able to change from FWD to AWD so that you could get the 4K Tow Package you were asking about? I was under the impression that no changes to the chassis type were allowed...
