Hey yall. This is my second post here since owning my Maverick. It’s a Hybrid and I have zero complaints. Recently I have been paying closer attention to my’ miles to empty’ numbers and I have some questions. When I filled up last weekend, it said 612 miles to Empty. I then drove 111 miles away, so it should read 501 miles when I reach my destination. However when I arrived, it was reading 321 miles to E. I also will notice the mileage shifting wildly even driving short distances. Has anyone else experienced this? Is the milage being displayed when the tank is full showing the optimal distance I could go when driving by as electric as possible? I am confused as to why it seems to work differently every time I drive my truck.
Thanks!

Those miles to empty things are just estimates based on how you typically drive. If you haven't had the vehicle very long, or are taking trips that are out of the norm it will not be very accurate.

I'm not an expert on this so I will defer to those more knowledgeable.

Mile remaining is just an estimate based upon usage. Usually around town I get about 45 mpg. Last weekend I drove about 700 miles on the highway and got 35 mpg. At the start of both of those tanks of fuel it gave me a miles remaining however that number doesn't know what I'm going to do with that tank of gas.

In my opinion I wouldn't even pay attention to that until you get to 70 miles or less. When the dash says 0 miles remaining it means it. I've run close trying to hit the 600 mile club and nearly filled the tank to the number in the owners manual.

In a funny aside. I've had 20 mile trips home from work and the miles remaining only dropped 10 miles from when I turned on the Mav.

I have a Hyundai Sonata and it does the same thing. Right after filling up it will show 510 - 580 miles until empty. depending on weather (temp), driving style, amount of time cruising, ect. it can change dramatically. I average about 430 mile on a tank..... but it is burning oil. I used to get much closer to 500. I do driver a little more aggressive than some drivers. I would just do the math based on miles driven and how many gallons you fill up to find out what you are actually getting. This also goes for the MPG, it can be off on some vehicles by as much as 5 MPS, from what I have read.

It's not a static number because the amount of driving on electric vs ICE varies with every trip you take. It's constantly re-calculating the MilesToEmpty.

In the hybrid it is your "recent" (about 250 miles) average MPG x 13.8 gallons x fuel level remaining.

In the EcoBoost it is your "recent" average MPG x 16.5 gallons x fuel level remaining.

The hybrid holds over 16 gallons.
The EcoBoost holds over 18 gallons.

But you get the "Empty" signal, and the Miles to Empty = 0 after burning 13.8 and 16.5 gallons respectively just to be safe.

Neither truck is going to leave you stranded if you go a "few" miles past zero. Each person will have a different comfort level with running past zero.
