Around a month back we found a dealership with three Mavericks being built for inventory. We put a down payment on one which has a bit more than we actually wanted and thought it had the 4K tow package. Well, it doesn't and only has the trailer hitch receiver. We don't plan much towing over 3000 pounds and most will be under 2000 pounds. So I ask, is the 4K tow package really necessary? Yes it would be nice to have a larger radiator, extra transmission cooler, prewired trailer light plug, and better rear gearing. But I sure don't want to screw up an existing delivery date (May like everyone else now) by trying to see if it can be added. Comments? Opinions? Laughing your butt off emojis?

Really only 2 reasons to get 4K besides just wanting it or thinking it's cool. My order has pretty much everything except 4K because these 2 things don't apply to me.
  1. You plan to tow over 2000lbs or something with trailer brakes.
  2. You plan to sell or trade in for another vehicle in the near future and are betting on the resale value being higher.

Thanks for the replies. Maybe too nervous with all of the setbacks Ford is dealing with and how we are finding it harder to hang in there for a Maverick.

not necessary. You can hook up your own brake controller easily. Frame and susp is the same. Gearing and cooling you get w/4k but if you are doing short hauls you will be fine

resale will be better though

Its just a matter of whether you want to be legal or not with the gcwr, the truck is capable of pulling it I'm sure. You are not likely to be checked for weight in a maverick unless in an accident or something. Do what you want, but I would not recommend it.

correct me if I'm wrong, but yours has only FWD? Assuming that is the case, you are also missing multi-link rear suspension that comes with AWD. Pretty sure that hitch is only prewired with 4-pin plug? Does it have factory installed trailer brake controller like 4K? Personally I would not attempt to tow anything more than about 90% of max rated 2k towing on a regular basis. Leaves some room below max for safety margin or adding those last minute items not in original load you planned on. Water = 8lbs per gallon, etc.

The non-4K trucks with FX4 are only missing the modified lower gear and the tranny cooler. If your not hauling in hilly or extreme temps, I think a truck without the 4K will handle 2-3k pretty well.

It does have AWD. That was he FIRST thing I wanted.
