Maverick was in a front end accident

My maverick was in a front end accident about 2 months ago its been in the shop ever sense. The damage was only about 8 grand worth of front end and wheel damage but the dealership claims the vehicle will not start. They are saying they cannot charge the hybrid battery and it has to be replaced. My problem is I see no way the battery could have been damaged it's knower near the damage. The other is that I think they believe this will total the truck but I looked up the pn and the battery is only 2 grand. My fear is my insurance will approve the repair the part will be on backorder for months and it will not fix anything

I wonder if it’s anything like my fusion when it had a dead 12v battery. There was something that had to be reset for the high voltage side to turn on. Most of the people at the dealer had no clue but the hybrid guy in service knew about it.

What kind of help are you looking for? I mean, we have no photos. Talk to the service manager and if you think they are BSing you, call them on it.

While the lithium battery is not in the front end, I bet it doesn’t like to be jostled. When a hybrid is in an accident, and there is any issue with the lithium battery, it is pretty much “totaled”.

I’m not an expert, but have seen hybrid batteries damaged even when their secure storage area was. It impacted.

… I may be way off, but I have seen Ford Fusions “totaled” because the impact “may have unsettled” the batteries.

I just know of a family member that was rear ended in his Fusion Hybrid, where the battery is basically in the trunk, and his insurance company decided to total the car rather than deal with future battery issues.

I know the battery is inside a case with cooling connections. I wonder if that 2 grand price you said is JUST the battery and it has to be installed inside the case? Could be a lot of labor?? Just throwing that out there. I really have no idea.

If the hybrid battery is just dead and not damaged there are aftermarket chargers for the HV battery but they are not cheap - $300 to $500 and it doesn't look like a simple hookup.
It's been mentioned on the forum that Ford dealers have the equipment to charge the HV battery, might be worth checking with your Ford dealer.
The owners manual recomends the hybrid be run for 15 minutes every 15 days when in storage, might be worth mentioning this when the vehicle is in the body shop.
