If that's close to what they bring to market, I predict it's not going to hurt the Mav sales and will be a bit player at best.

The Mav isn't an Escape with a small bed. It's a small pickup truck. That's why its so damn successful. Well, that and the hybrid engine option, smart marketing, etc......

Any other car company trying to turn an existing SUV into a competitor is in the same spot as Hyundai and Subaru and really can't read the market very well.

I said the same thing a month or two ago but one of the “knows everything “ said no way. It takes years to develop and get out a new truck, yet it’s ALL over the internet that almost every auto manufacturer out there has a small pickup in the works from Chevy, Subaru, VW, Kia, the list goes on. Let’s just hope some stick a hybrid in them. Enjoy while you can Ford.

Even if the Baja and Santa Cruz were the same price as the Maverick and equally equipped I would still by the Maverick because I like a truck to look like a truck not a car. Why, I owned 2 Rancheros and 1 El Camino and I like 4 doors.

I would love to see at least 2 more manufacturers jump on this trend - the more small trucks the better!

sure the Subaru would be an easy candidate, and they can learn from their mistakes. Kia could definitely do their version of the Santa Cruz and still maintain some corporate identity. Personally I'd expect Dodge to give it a shot, and possibly throw Jeep into the mix -the Renegade is just a shortened Compass, and they are reported to be making a 3 row Compass for foreign markets (Commander), so they already have a long wheelbase compact platform to work with.

The Ranchero is really cool. But yes I like the Maverick because it looks like a truck.

Looks like crap with that black plastic on the fenders going into the front fascia and rear quarters.

Subaru would really have to up their game with a hardcore Baja to have any street/trail credit over the Maverick. The Maverick has dominated to SantaCruz and The Outback offroad edition in offroad comparisons. It would need to serious hardware to justify the added costs over a xlt fx4.
