Ford was really reaching with the pinto but at least still it made sense being a horse.

They weren't reaching at all. The Stallion package was a trim package. It had no performance enhancements. It was like the red, white, and blue Sprint package a few years earlier.

And Ford has a history of mixing animals. Remember the Mustang II Cobra II and King Cobra? The Fox Mustangs? The '93 and up Mustang Cobra? The current Coyote-powered Mustang?

I my opinion Ford was reaching.
They were in the final production year of the Maverick, before they brought out the Fairmont. Ford was looking to increase sales as much as possible.
Never heard of a mustang Fox. Volkswagen Fox yes.
I've heard of the fox body mustang.
I've heard of a coyote engine. I remember the Coyote x from Hardcastle and McCormick.
I remember the mustang cobra badging. 429 cobra jet engine.

When I briefly sold Toyotas in late winter / early spring of 1992, a gentleman bought a brand spankin' new Toyota pickup truck (they weren't even called Tacoma yet) and when he showed up to get it, gave the sales manager a Marine Globe and Anchor emblem hood ornament and told him he would not accept delivery until they installed it on the hood - the sales manager drove the truck into the service bay and gave the service manager direction to install it "right now"....one of the mechanics got out a drill with a large bit, drilled into the hood, mounted the ornament and away went one happy Marine...

I prefer the "similar items" in the link with the less than half price chrome flying pig to the black duck, but the V8 girl would likely get your truck more noticed, and therefore more likely to be "an unplanned removal"...

Back in the 80's I got a Mack truck bulldog with eyes that lit up from JC Whitney and bolted it to the hood of the snot green Mercury Comet I bought for $200. It was so stupid looking that I got a lot of great comments on it. It was fun until it disappeared one dark and stormy night outside a bar leaving a large hole in the hood.

I was going to put a Bull Dog on my Maverick but he kept sliding off.
