So today I was hauling corn field to corn drier...

Got done about 5:30PM and headed home from the farm.

About midway I was getting thirsty to I stopped at a local small town convenience store for a drink. I grabbed a bottle of Mexican Coca-Cola... for those unfamiliar with this the Mexican Coke is made with cane sugar and has an old fashioned bottle cap. Not a twist off.

I asked the guy at the check out if he had a bottle opener
..he did not.

When I left the store I spotted an Atlas blue XL parked next to me in the parking lot.

I struck up a conversation with the owner about his Maverick, how long has he owned it and how does he like it...

Then I asked if he could do a favor for me...he kinda winced not knowing what to expect.

I told him about my dilemma...Mexican Coke No bottle opener.

I ask if I could use his tailgate to open that bottle...he said he had never tried it.

So off we go to the back of his truck... I insert the bottle cap into that little black bracket and seconds later I'm drinking my Coke.

We both laughed like hell...we then sat down and talked about how he waited six months for his truck, he changed his color from Cactus gray to Atlas blue ( a beautiful color btw), playing golf, etc.

Two old bastards making acquaintances over a Coke and a Maverick.

A classic American story...

Northeast Iowa. We haven't had a decent rain in 3 months. Lot of calls for cornfield fires. The roads are full of semis hauling corn or tractors pulling 2 or 3 loaded trailers. I always pull WAY over and stop if I meet them on a country road.. Give them as much road as I can. I have even pulled into a handy driveway to let a wide load pass. Don't cost me anything and I sure don't want to be the cause of a half-million dollar piece of equipment rolling into the ditch.

I saw a video yesterday of a farmer putting out a fire in his field using a flail mower...scary!

But when I do, it's always a Mexican Coke with no HF corn syrup. Tastes so much better.
I switched to diet decades ago, still young enough to be impervious to calories, due to the sticky-sweet taste of HFCS.

but I'm still baffled by the notion of hauling enough corn in a maverick to be worth the effort . . .
