I don't own a Maverick at the moment, but this forum has been a great place to find information and issues owners have found on their first year Mavericks. One of these is how on the FX4 off-road package, the included skid plates block assess for changing the fuel filter.

Has anyone modified said skid plate by drilling a large enough hole to access changing the oil filter? Is there anything else that the skid plate blocks that would need checking often, as taking the skid plates off year after year could get tedious.

You do realize the large skid plate does NOT need to come off to change the oil, right?

There is small front plate that only has a few screws to remove and the drain has small plastic type plate that comes off with even fewer.

My apologies if you were already aware.

Hello Weatherman, since I don't own a Maverick I didn't know that was a feature on the skid plate, so I didn't know, so thats ok. All I recall was seeing on a thread discussing issues owners had with their Mavericks that the skid plate had too removed to change the oil filter, so perhaps the owner who commented may have not realized about the removable screw in plate yet.

Yes, there was initially, but later in there was a new thread that showed that only the two small plates had to be removed. I was thinking I might put my own access plates in the skid plate at one point, but after seeing the updated info., quickly decided that would not be necessary.

Hope you enjoy your truck(s) as much as I have.

Hey thanks Weatherman I appreciate it. Hopefully down the road several years from now when I can afford a Maverick, I will make sure to enjoy it as much as you have.
