One time, years ago, my mother wanted to make a few pies from scratch for thanksgiving desert. She bragged about them in the days coming up to thanksgiving. Once they came out of the oven thanksgiving morning, they looked amazing! We couldn’t wait to try them. However, when she went to cut into the first one, the top crust had risen so much when cooking that when she made that cut the pie deflated completely flat! . We couldn’t stop laughing! She was devastated at first, but found how funny it really was. I don’t think anything will ever top that memory!

Thanksgiving meal is my favorite time of the year because I get to share it with family, 3 times each year. I'm blessed to have family in Canada so I get to go up there for Canadian thanksgiving. Then on US thanksgiving I get to have a celebration with immediate family and then on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, my Canadian relatives come down for a celebration with the whole family. It's always a good time at all 3 meals and there is nothing better than getting to spend time with my family and grilling turkeys.

We live walking distance to work so we don't get to drive as much as I like. It was nice to go on a long drive to visit the girlfriend's family on Thanksgiving followed by visiting my family. We had two good meals and had a very pleasant day.

We are getting some new tires mounted on the Maverick in a couple days and are looking forward to a drive over the mountains to Leavenworth, WA to welcome in the Christmas season. Hoping for lots of snow!

This year for Thanksgiving dinner we had turkey (of course!), stuffing, sweet potatoes, acorn squash, homemade dinner rolls, and a Jello dish that includes whole berry cranberry sauce, crushed pineapple, walnuts, and chopped apples.

After dinner, I spend the evening making turkey chowder. The turkey frame is boiled and simmered in a large stock pot. Afterwards, all of the meat is removed from the bones (discarding the bones, of course!) and supplemented with enough chopped turkey from the leftovers to make six cups of turkey. Vegetables that are diced and/or chopped for the chowder include onion, cabbage, celery, potatoes, broccoli, and cauliflower. Finally, pearl barley, a bag of frozen mixed vegetables, and a can of diced tomatoes are added to the pot. Sesonings are added and all of it simmers a couple of hours. Dinner is all set for the next day.
