Loop sewn into seat belt

I have a 23 Maverick Hybrid. There is a loop sewn in the lap part of the Seat Belt. Can someone tell me what this is for?

So the buckle doesn’t drop to the floor when your take the belt off.

So the buckle doesn’t drop to the floor when your take the belt off.

This, and it also keeps an unused buckle from banging/rattling against the door pillar.
