I have a build date on my Maverick for late June, and there is one thing I need to check before committing to picking up the truck.

If have aged to the point that my night vision is not that great. I had to sell my Corvette because it had lousy headlights and I just couldn't see on unlit roads at night. I am currently driving a Santa Cruz. The headlights on it are significantly better, but still not great.

I haven't seen any threads around here about upgrading the Maverick headlights. That gives me hope that they'll give me the illumination I need, but I would like to be sure.

I'm looking for someone to take me for a quick drive around the block at night so that I can see in person what kind of visibility there is.

Are there any local meetups that run until after dark?

Please give me a shout if you can help.

Thanks

Wish I were not in North TX, I would gladly do it. If this makes you feel any better. I am 76, have had cataract surgery in both eyes, developed macular degeneration in my right eye and had to stop driving at night. When I picked up my Maverick, I had to drive a couple hours back home. My wife had gone on and I had planned to be home before dark, but hit highway blockage due to a wreck, so I wound up driving the last 40 miles at night. To my amazement, it seemed like the sky was lit up. I am not afraid to go anywhere driving at night as long as I am in the Maverick. Fantastic headlights - LED and do the trick.

Thank you!

Great information. Makes me feel much more confident that the Maverick will work for me.

They are the brightest headlights we've had on a car to date. I think they are even brighter than the Projector lights on our 2016 Escape.

My impression is that the Mavericks headlights are better than the 2006 Tacoma it is replacing and a Corolla I used to own but not nearly as good as a 2021 Forester Limited that we have.

The Foresters headlights even focus and turn left and right as you go around curves. If the Maverick does not work for you then you might want to look at the Forster or some other Subaru that has the same headlights. As I recall in 2021 the different trim levels might have had different headlights but I an not sure about that or the 2023 options.

IIHS test the headlights and rated the Maverick as A-acceptable but the Forester got a G-good. The Santa Cruz that you are driving got a P-Poor headlight rating.

Here are the links to their test details and if you scroll way down the page there is a chart which shows how far the headlights illuminate well and some comments about the test results.

Maverick
https://www.iihs.org/ratings/vehicle/ford/maverick-crew-cab-pickup/2023

Forester
https://www.iihs.org/ratings/vehicle/subaru/forester-4-door-suv/2023

Especially off to the left and right you can see the Forester illuminates farther out on those charts. On the road straight ahead in the right hand lane the Maverick gets a bit more distance but the Maverick also had some negatives that were mentioned in the text.

I don't know what the difference is between the LED reflector headlights that the Maverick has and the LED projector that the Forester has.

Way down this page is an explanation of how they evaluate headlights.

https://www.iihs.org/ratings/about-our-tests#headlight-evaluation-2016-present

I did not pick the Forester to imply that it has the best headlights, it is just what my other car is and my impression is that it has noticeably better headlights than the Maverick so it is not just some subtle difference in a laboratory measurement. There is lots more information about headlights if you want to dig into the IIHS website.

You not having great night vision it probably makes sense to get a vehicle with a Good headlight rating if you are going to keep driving at night. It would also be good to talk to your eye doctor to see if they think you should still be driving at night.
