Lazy man's dashcam install

Ok, I guess I'm officially "old" even though I don't think of myself that way so I have to ask - Why? Can someone please help me understand what a dashcam is doing for you? Obviously, it records video but what are you doing with that video, why do you need it? I'm not being judgemental, I'm asking a genuine question in an attempt to understand.

I have a friend who started going when the light turned green, got broadsided by a red-light runner. Showed the cop the daschcam footage and 100% no worrying about lying, witnesses, whatever- runner got a ticket and their insurance was easy to deal with.

I saw someone behind me lightly sideswipe someone else, was able to tell the cop exactly what happened from footage.

I also had some idiot cut me off getting into a freeway entrance. They then proceeded to lightly sideswipe the person in front of them while merging on- I stopped and told the victim I had it on camera- sent the victim the footage.

I went with one that covers the rear view mirror, it gives me a larger mirror and the whole thing is the screen. I haven't installed the rear camera, but the front camera is on it. Wolfbox is a popular brand, bought mine several years ago and it migrated from previous vehicle. Certainly helped with my accident claim when it showed I was at a complete stop when my Scion Xb got hit from behind and was totaled. I ran the cable behind the shroud, under the headliner and down the passenger side pillar. It just clips on to the mirror, super fast easy install.

I would definitely recommend installing the rear camera!

cheapo dash cam sitting on dash with double sided foam tape. Excess cord in well behind screen, then straight down to 12V outlet
Didn't want to start lifting moldings, this thing has enough rattles already.

With a dull plastic "knife" or other tool, you can push wires into the pillars without removing anything.

The angle that sits at is going to miss a lot of important coverage, best to be up high on the windshield. Something is better than nothing though!

Years ago a car rear ended me and tried to run, this lady swooped in and made him pull over, and then she sent me dashcam footage of the whole thing. It made it super easy to deal with the insurance.
I also let the lady know she was my hero that day, and then I bought cams for all my cars.

Have a bicycling friend who was hit from behind by a truck mirror on a narrow road. He was knocked onto the shoulder while the driver sped away. His bike mounted camera recorded the crime including the driver’s face. Police caught the dwerp and charged him with multiple offenses.

Police were frank about the video catching the driver. Without it, no chance of prosecution.

I have an old blackvue i need to mount, maybe I'll do a dash mount too if the cam angles can see plates
