removed the cover and put it above the filler neck. Since you need to use the emergency filler door release cord in the wheel well, yours would be even more hidden.

I use my keypad as a convenience tool to unlock the door, without having to traips back to the house to get the key. I don't understand hiding it. The more inconvenient you make to use, the less you'll use it. I don't know how often you want to use the fuel door emergency release cable on a hybrid. I don't think it's made for a lot of use.
I think bringing back the wired version is an excellent decision on Ford's part. It's placed in a permanent location there is no debate as to where it goes. You know ahead of time where it's going to be placed, if you like it, you add it as an option.
If you don't like where it's going to be placed, you can always add the remote version.
To me having the remote version is less of a security risk, than having your garage door remote control visible in plain sight. Not to mention your home address is right in your glove compartment.
