Key Fob Battery Drain

Will hanging up my key fob in close proximity of my Maverick drain the truck battery? I hang all my keys on the wall next to the garage door entrance from the house. My vehicles are parked just outside this house/garage door into the garage. Distance from where I hang the keys to the vehicles is approximately 25' with a house wall barrier.

You should get some kind of faraday cage storage solution, not only will it quell your fears about battery drain but it will also keep thieves from potentially duplicating the signal and stealing your vehicle.

Not to bump this old thread, but this is the only thread I've found so far talking about this. While getting my latest batch of recalls done I asked the tech about the battery issue and was told to not leave my key in the truck or within 10 feet. I said, but it's an XLT, and he said it doesn't mater.

Was he just blowing smoke about this?

The hybrid key is different from the one used on the Eco Boost. Are they both affected?

They are not different between hybrid & EB.

They are different between keyless (Lariat & some Lux packages) & non-keyless (XL/XLT).

No not effected, original conjecture and tech's prior experiences comment are wrong.

The remote goes to sleep after non-movement - so unless it's hanging in the breeze or cats are playing with it, the remote (keyless) stops sending out signal. Non-keyless only sends out signal when a button is pressed anyway.

For the truck side - it's receiver is on all the time listening for a fob button press or proximity of keyless fob sending signal.
