The drivers airbag being deployed is a giveaway that this car was crashed under power. This was likely a crashed mav that the local FD or company demoing equipment got their hands on from the salvage yard. Or like others have said test production cars - though a lot less likely as ford would have sent those to the crusher a long time ago.

That happened to a friend of mine in high school.

The fire department was doing a Jaws of Life demo because they had just gotten one. (Late 80s) It was during a small town festival so there weren't many parking spots close to the festivities.

My friend had 60s Era Ford Fairlane that he slid sideways into a utility pole doing donuts, so the rear door was crushed in. Other than that the car drove fine so he was still driving it.

He parked close to the volunteer fire department and left his keys in the car-small town, who would steal it. FD thought it was the demo car and cut it to pieces. The demo car was actually a crashed Tempo on a trailer parked in a municipal lot down the street.

When confronted they offered him $200 for his car. He ended up having to go to the mayor and plead his case, wound up with a sweet 78 Camaro out of the deal.
He's lucky they didn't give him the Tempo...

The front end being in immaculate condition is a giveaway that it wasn't.

Hi Everyone,
I was at FDIC in Indy today. For those of you that don’t know, FDIC is a fire truck trade show and fire equipment show. They were using the Jaws of Life on the vehicle.

My hope is that all the parts can be salvaged.

My guess is t-boned on passenger side. The dash is bent severely indicating a side passenger hit maybe.
I found a video of driver side t-bone, note very little front end damage.
Yes that must be it. I should have known!

Seems like they could have used any old car.... why this one? I'm guessing it was already wrecked?
