You will need both of the programmed intelligent access keys that came with your vehicle. If you only have one, you have to throw yourself onto the mercery of the dealer.

Let's get started:
  1. Place the first programmed key in the backup slot.
    1. The backup slot in under the black pad of the center console storage compartment.
    2. Peel the pad up and you will see an indention in the plastic bottom that has the same outline of your FOB.
    3. Place the one of the FOBs into the outline, buttons facing up.
      1. If you use your FOB as a key ring FOB, you may want to remove the key ring from the FOB.
      2. I did not try removing the hidden key in the FOB to remove my key ring from the FOB.
  2. Press the START/STOP button once. Wait five seconds.
    1. You will be in full accessory mode for these five seconds.
  3. Press the START/STOP button again. Remove the key.
    1. This turns off the full accessory mode.
    2. Remove the FOB from the backup slot.
  4. Now, insert the second programmed key (into the backup 'slot'). Press the START/STOP button.
    1. Be ready to write the code down.
    2. It may not be as easy as it sounds. I had to do at least three swap cycles before I had success. The code will appear on the main screen, above center of the steering wheel.
    3. The code should appear on the screen as soon as you press the START/STOP button. If you get the normal "full accessory screen start up", you did not enable the code display. Cuss or quietly wait a full five seconds and then press the START/STOP again.
    4. Remove the current FOB setting in the backup slot.
    5. Go back to main bullet #4 above to try again.
      1. You can also allow the display to go into off mode and try from main bullet #1.

Alternative, look at the control board under the passenger side. Code is on a sticker. That's how I got it for my Escape when that dealership neglected to give it to me.

Code on the sticker in passenger floor board in 2023 Maverick. There is a YouTube vid out there that walks you through it, too.
