I feel like the forum has been slow today. Probably because everyone wants to talk about the tariffs, but doesn't know if they should. Or ... Can't do so without spiraling off topic into just politics and getting thread locked.

I think as it relates to maverick only, it's a valid discussion topic. Just as valid as years past "when do you think I'll get my order?" Threads.

Everyone trying to find the answer to the unanswerable on the magic internet.

When will my order be ready for pickup ... 🤷‍♂️
Do you think my order will affected my tariffs ... 🤷‍♂️

Try this... https://www.indra.com/8ball/front.html

I saw on here a lot of posts about the upcoming tariffs, and I just wanted to mention that while all the posts I read exclusively mentioned the Mavericks Mexican involvement, I also wanted to tell everyone that Canada is definitely involved as well.

I work at Arconic in Davenport, IA. We make the aluminum alloys for all the Ford bodies and frames. I can tell you, without hesitation, that 90+% of all our raw or "prime" aluminum originates in Canada. I have unloaded thousands of tons from railcars myself. No raw aluminum=no aluminum alloys. We do a fair bit of recycling/reusing but at best thats 76%, and thats not perpetually sustainable. We need millions of tons a month of prime aluminum.

So, with the vehicle being assembled in Mexico, with aluminum sourced from Canada, it could be, functionally, a 50% tariff.

Not trying to be political. I am stating provable facts. Not solutions.
This is an important point. The Maverick and other vehicles use parts that are manufactured in various countries such as China, Mexico, and Canada; and would likely be subject to tariffs. Auto production involves complex supply chains that would be disrupted by tariffs. I won't get into other likely adverse consequences such as inflation and job loss because that could be political.

I don't know the answer for that.

We're probably (definitely) off topic but I have heard (once, from a metallurgist at work) that the gallium processing that comes as a byproduct from the bauxite is the most difficult part.

I've worked in manufacturing in various subsectors for 20 years. And in EVERY industry, there is immediate and usually quite obvious connections between the plants/processes here and the elements sourced/outsourced to both Canada AND Mexico.

As I recall, the entirety of the NAFTA agreements from the Clinton Era intentionally interwove the 3 countries industries. That was kind of the 'point' if I remember correctly.

Guess we'll soon find out what we export to C M and C as they will be hit with retaliatory tariffs.
Here we talk about cars and trucks but a lot of our food supplies will be effected as well.

If you already own a Maverick...why care?
So much more than that tho.

I heard now they are carrying coke products too. Hot dogs still the same price. Almost like it CAN be done!

But seriously, gonna be a shh show and we aren't making any new factories so...

It was never about that anyways. They don't care about American jobs. We'll see if the next cold war ends up having merit or not, who knows. All I know is I'm tired.

I'm not sure how these companies might handle these tariffs. I do know what I would do if I were in charge of a company like Ford. I would look at numbers and if it's still cheaper to build them in Mexico and import them then it would be to have an all-American workforce who would want lots of money, and benefits etc. I would continue to build them, import them, put some of the cost on the vehicle for the consumer. But to ensure that I don't out price my vehicles to make up for the other cost that I didn't pass on to consumers, I would lay off a bunch of the American workforce.

Obviously, that would only be if it's still much cheaper to build them and import them than it would be to build them in the USA. And I'm not a business major so I'm not sure how well My idea would work but for me it was just a thought.

I can’t imagine there’s a ton of mark up in vehicles, especially base models

And that's it exactly. I mean I'm not sure if a tariff, if it is enacted, would be based on the MSRP, or if it's just based on what the vehicle would be with nothing on it. You know like a base model like you said.

This just further cements my decision to simply hold onto to what I have. I'm done trying to look for another Maverick. I've been keeping an eye out for a Hybrid after my sour experience with my local dealer. The two main reasons were one, for better fuel efficiency and two, to enjoy the new Sync 4 screen and upgraded tech.

However, all of this has made me realize what's really important. None of this is a need, it's a want and there's a huge difference. With the threats of tariffs going into place as soon as tomorrow, it just makes better sense to hold onto to what I have. Same goes for anyone else. Plus, I have a nice car. It has everything I need and nothing more.

And this isn't just about cars and the Maverick specifically. It's going to affect everything we consume. Groceries, electronics, clothes, appliances, you name it. Now is a better time than ever to keep whatever you have going for as long as possible. The phones, computers, cars, anything that can be serviced rather than replaced would be highly advisable.

Sure, you don't have to take my advice. You can do whatever you want. I'm just trying to save people money in the long run.
