Mine is the non-Sync 3 unit. The last update was quite some time ago and it didn't cause any issues, but helped somewhat with stability and it seems to scan faster now.

Also, the issue of browsing USB contents while moving was fixed using FORScan quite some time ago. Thanks to somebody poking around, they found an easy fix, at least for the non-Sync units.
I cannot browse even when parked.

The electronics in the newest most expensive cars are YEARS behind the cheapest 5 year old $200 Chromebook.
My question to the Ford "Fixer" on this forum is W H Y ? ! ? ! ?

I don't understand what you mean. Why can't you browse when parked? That makes no sense unless you mean before the scan is finished. For me, that can take up to 5 minutes for something close to 6200 songs across 162 artists and 750 or so albums folders. If you have more than 10,000 songs, rumor was, it will never finish scanning. That was something that came up early in the Maverick ownership threads.

I'd have to start it to get exact but it basically says browsing is not available.
Get the same after my drive to work ~30 minutes
I'll have to check the file count. I do have 18 audiobooks on there plus songs

Put one book on a drive with playlist and it does get to the point I can browse so that must be the 10,000 file thing.
Still doesn't play the playlist in order, actually seems worse :D
Guess I will mention it again when I call them about the recall. Not sure how I make sure they actually log it with Ford since if you call ford they say them cannot troubleshoot it so they won't log it as an issue.

Just wanted to update. The playlist playback using the method above has been reliable, except when you re-start the vehicle and the song playing finishes before the USB scan is complete. Yes, it re-scans at each re-start. There is no saved information regarding the playlists or the usb folder structure. I've come into the habit of checking how much time remains on the song before I turn off the truck. If its less than 3 minutes, I rewind to the beginning of the song and then turn off.

I should also clarify, the process of making the playlist in iTunes is only the 1st step. You have to export the playlist, and then edit the drive reference using Notepad. Luckily, Notepad remembers the find/replace command (even months later) and there is a button to "replace all" so its fairly quick once you do the 1st one.
I think I must have jinxed myself. After working great (with the limitation of waiting for a USB scan every start), my playlist situation has somehow quit working after 7+ months. Nothing has really changed, but now instead of seeing all 47 playlists, it is only coming back with about 7-10 playlists and I can't seem to figure out why. I tried re-formating the USB and freshly transferred all ~6200 files back to the USB. Same exact result. Now its back to the frustrating issue of not being able to play an artist's songs in correct album order, unless you select 1 album at a time. Grrr.

At least I can browse while moving (with the FORScan mod), so its not as bad as it was originally, but still frustrating after I put so much work into creating all those playlists.

I find it odd, and disgusting, that my $200 Chromebook has absolutely no problem with USB drives, but my $36,000 Ford can't quite seem to figure them out. Someone in Ford's befuddled tech department needs to contact a local grade school. Have then bring in a couple of First Graders to sort this out. Obviously, it is above the current dip sticks pay grade.

Anybody try plugging a splitter into the USB with any success?? When I did it the truck spanked me harshly.

I have about 25 albums on a flash drive and I was driving in a residential area scrolling for a different album and after going through 1/2 of the alphabetical list, it stopped me with the "You can't use this feature while driving." I know that I shouldn't have been doing that but why did it wait so long?

UPDATE to my Playlist frustration...
After reading some 10+ year old posts at the Explorer and Focus forums, it turns out the people back then with MyFord units (Pre Sync3) were going through the same issues with playlists.

One suggestion was to make sure the M3U playlists are in the root of the USB drive. I had them all within my ..\Music folder and it worked previously, but now it doesn't.

I moved the 47 playlists into the root of the drive, plugged it back into the Maverick and after scanning, I have all my playlists again.

Hopefully that helps anyone who is struggling with playlists...make sure they are in the root of the drive!

Still no explanation as to why it worked for 7+ months and decided suddenly to change behavior.

EDIT: I am starting to think that I did originally have my playlists in the root of the USB drive, but recently, I synced my USB with my computer's MP3 folder to get some updated music. On the computer, I have the playlists saved in the MP3 subfolder. Lesson learned. I'll move those to a separate Playlist folder and manually copy any playlist updates.

Yeah, before I eliminated the Nanny with FORScan, it would typically let me choose among the displayed page, but once I scrolled down half a page or so, it would pop up with the warning.

The FORScan mod was the best thing I've done to the vehicle.

Thanks for the info. . I'm going to collect a few mods like that one and I think that there's one for selecting drive modes too.

Thanks for this idea. That folder issue may also have to do with how long it takes my vehicle to scan the drive when the system is booting up.
Edit/ my albums are in their own folders right on the drive. Only on my comp. are they buried in sub folders.
Edit 2/ Aha... many of the albums are in sub folders created when they were burned by the software. Fixed that.

To be clear, most of my music on the usb drive is organized in folders like this: ../Music/Artist/Album/Song.mp3

It is the M3U Playlist files that need to be in the root of the usb. Otherwise, my folders match what is on my PC.

yes. Understood. Mine were slightly less.: Artist/Album/Song.mp3
So, I reduced to : Album/Song.mp3

another interesting issue that I'm having since I paired my phone with the Android Auto is that at random times when the car is sleeping, I hear Siri say, "Sorry I don't understand." This happens in the middle of the night when there are no room sounds present.
