I was just reading on another forum about an issue when opening the door, and the Mav going into Park. I like this feature, but this post got me thinking. Sometimes, you may find yourself wanting to have the door open while slowly moving forward. To be honest, I can’t think of a reason now, but I know I’ve done it in the past. The person who posted used the example of lining up to ramps. Of course, since the Mav will automatically shift into Park, you can’t do this.

Does anyone know of a way to override this?

I think the manual says to switch it into “L.”

If in drive and open the door it goes into park. If in park and door open, you can put it in drive and move forward. I do it all the time. The warning beep is annoying as sin, but...

If the drivers seatbelt is plugged in it will not go into park when you open the door.

When moving my Maverick without the seatbelt on or taking it off before opening the door I’ve gotten used to coming to a stop opening the door and it going to park automatically.

The other day I stopped in the road way as there was an object blocking my path.

I opened the door, undid my seatbelt and stepped out to move it. My truck began to drive forward as it was still on drive. Luckily I had just stepped out and hopped back in.

Confirmed later in a parking lot.

In a wicked ice storm back in ‘96 in the Texas Hill Country I woke up at 3AM with sleet pounding on the little cabin I was in. I decided to get up and move my truck away from the big Oak tree next to cabin. The ice was so thick I had to pound on the door/window tho break up the ice to get in my truck. Had to lean out of the truck with the door open to see my way into the open pasture. Next morning that Oak split in half and took out the fence right where my truck had been parked. Moral of the story: if the storm is bad, and your truck is parked in an ify location, drag your ass outta bed and move it 😉

Seat belt not buckled is reason to shift to park. Common strategy on all Ford E-shift vehicles...
