Used the auto hold the other day at a drive through.
I don't see the logic in having that feature.
Just put it in park then drive.
Id rather have another button down there for something else useful.
As one who would put the car in neutral at long stop lights.
I find it useful not having to do anything other than pressing on the accelerator.
Nothing like being at a stop light, with your vehicle in park or neutral and hitting the gas only to hear you engine just revving 😱

Or seeing someone is going to rear-end you, and hit the gas to get out of the way, but nope, you're in neutral :)

That’s why always keep it in drive.
just like riding motorcycles, keep it in 1st at a light or stop. In case you have to move fast ur already in gear.

Isn’t hill start assist the same as auto brake hold? Damn, now I’m confused!
Not that I'm aware of. In my XL Hybrid, hill start assist works, whether the auto brake hold (hold truck in place w/o foot on brake at red light, etc.) is on or not. There are very steep hills w/ stop signs in my town. After I stop at one whilst going UP, when I start to pull forward and move my foot from brake to Go pedal, the hill start assist keeps the truck from rolling backward.

Mine kicked in on a very steep, winding downhill on a road trip last spring. Actually like that this feature is on my truck. That would've been one heck of riding my brakes.
This☝ can happen with the Hybrid.

Braking down a steep hill, regenerative braking in the Hybrid helps charge the HV battery and save wear on the brake pads/rotors. It increases Regen if in Eco or Slippery Mode, or if the L button is depressed. But if the HV battery is at max allowed charge, Regen stops and the gas engine will engage to "JakeBrake" assist the brakes.

Lift foot off brake - wait the couple seconds for the hill assist release, press the gas when it's already gone.

I've yet to have a time the hill assist is engaged when I need to gun it.
Always at light or stop sign situation where I can time my brake pedal release and the second or two of still being held.

All I can tell you is what happened. Some sort of braking other than my foot riding the pedal automatically kicked in and I was glad it did
That's the effect of HVB fully enough charged so regen braking not an option - your generator motor changed the gearing to bring the engine online (without turning on of course) to provide some air-braking.
Gearing changes by the generator motor can change how that sounds.

Couple of SECONDS 🤣
Hill Start Assist Only engages when heading UP an incline. Hill Start Assist will automatically hold the Maverick while you transition your foot from the brake to the gas pedal.
And releases
instantaneously when you press the gas pedal.
Traveling between Nevada and Utah I'm either going up or down.

Using auto brake hold will automatically turn off auto start/stop, cool didn’t know that, I’ll try it, thanks for the the info.
Auto stop start only turns off the engine when the brake pedal is being pushed, with auto hold you don't need to push the brake pedal when stopped so start/stop will not activate.

Upwards of.
Actually on declines too.
It'll release prior to pressing the gas - I do it that way usually when it holds, and I'm good at guessing what angle it's going to hold on. Like backing into my drive way, sometimes brake, and release, and idle into last few feet without the go pedal pressed.

How Does Hill Start Assist Work

When the system activates, your vehicle remains stationary for a few seconds after you release the brake pedal. This gives you time to move your foot from the brake pedal to the accelerator pedal. The brakes release when you apply the accelerator pedal and the vehicle begins to move forward, or the system exceeds the time allowed for automatically applying the brakes.
The system activates when your vehicle is in any forward gear and facing uphill, or when your vehicle is in reverse (R) and facing downhill.
