Is there a way to remove the gear box housing?

Looks like have to remove the console to get that switch assembly out & opened up, it's removed in this video -

You might also try a can of air and the little straw. It works well in my cars.

Maybe put hot sauce on it? BBQ sauce is sweet and the spicy should cancel it out.

the whole center trim probably has to come off
