If not, wire in to the USB port with an LED light (can’t use stock LED assembly as it requires a third wire for communication and won’t work without it).

No I'm adding a actual light to the console as well as the glove box using OEM GM console glove box lights.

Going to tap into the yellow with green tracer dome light wire.

I understand, but I'm thinking a little console lighting would be enough for me to see where to put my coffee.

No I'm talking about the console with the lid, you know the center console back when manufacturers included a light in the console and the glove box..

I think my 14 chevy equinox was the last one to have both lights from the factory.

I just bought the XLT center console lamp from someone and I'll splice that into the foot well lighting of my Lariat.

Would like to do something similar for the back of the center console so that it shines on the rear floor...

I did but finding the older post is a pain in the butt on here, if I run into it I'll quote you again and post the link.

If that's what you're wanting to do, that back panel just snaps off the console. Its held in place as you know by five bolts, you could run the wires under the console from one of your current ambient lights and just cut/Dremel a hole the size of the light underneath the accessory slot on the rear of the console that's where I drilled a hole 3/16 of an inch for the LED to shine through.

Since the XLTs don't have ambient lighting I tapped into the 12 volt accessory port below the climate controls for power.
