My 2023 Lariat hybrid has achieved incredibly great gas mileage for the first 7,000 miles that I have driven it. In the cold weather I’m getting 46-48 mpg, while, in summer weather, I get 48-51.8 mpg. Right now, my dash shows 50.3 mpg for my total 7,000 mile history…as I have never zeroed it out since taking ownership!
I have a friend who has traded in his 2023 gas Maverick for a 2024 hybred based on my experience.

Can you explain your typical driving routes and optimized settings to achieve this? Seems like the math isn't mathing.

It’s downhill both ways.

IIRC several threads have commented on the long term avg MPG is actually not from the start of a trip, but rather some shorter distance.
In other words not the 7k you actually have, but 2k or less.

My driving typically is local, with only the occasional highway trip. Probably only 20% of my driving is on the highway. I almost always utilize the ECO mode, only failing to activate it for very short periods of a trip. This is because of the Maverick's inability to have that setting as the default! Not a good feature...or, rather the lack thereof!
I do observe the posted speed limits, anticipate stops and braking, and watch the power consumption dial. When the power looks to be going above 10%, I typically reduce the speed control to maintain Electric Driving. I utilize downhill stretches to increase my Cruise Control MPH, and then decrease it as I approach an inclined section of road.
Sometimes, the engine will start for no apparent reason, when that happens, I try to lower my Cruise Control MPH until it shuts down and Electric Driving resumes.
p.s. the dash display went up to 50.4 MPG this morning on my way back from the gym.

If you want to do the math....
I took possession on 10-04-23, the truck had 47.6 miles on it
I filled the tank that day and began driving.
First fill-up on 10-31-24 with 12.979 gal Odom @ 679.7 minus 47.6 for 632.1 miles for 48.7 MPG
2nd fill-up on 11-24-23 with 12.454 gal Odom @ 1232.2 minus 679.7 for 552.5 miles for 44.36 MPG
3rd fill-up on 12-11-23 with 9.567 gal Odom @ 1678.9 minus 1232.2 for 415.7 miles for 43.45 MPG
4th full-up on 1-09-24 with 12.2 gal Odom @ 2145.6 minus 1647.9 for 497.7 miles for 40.80 MPG
5th fill-up on 2-01-24 with 11.828 gal Odom @ 2577.7 minus 2145.6 for 432.1 miles for 36.53 MPG
6th full-up on 3-11-24 with 13.397 gal Odom @ 3166.1 minus 2577.7 for 588.4 miles for 43.92 MPG
7th fill-up on 3-18-24 with 13.561 gal Odom @ 3785.0 minus 3166.1 for 618.9 miles for 45.64 MPG
8ht full-up on 4-05-24 with 13.089 gal Odom @ 4364.2 minus 3785.0 for 579.2 miles for 44.25 MPG
9th fill-up on 5-07-24 with 14.535 ga;* Odom @ 5069.8 minus 4364.2 for 705.6 miles for 48.54 MPG
10th full-up on 5-30-24 with 12.624 gal Odom @ 5724.9 minus 5069.8 for 655.1 miles for 51.89 MPG
11th full-up on 6-13-24 with 5.001 gal Odom @ 5972.7 minus 5724.9 for 247.9 miles for 49.55 MPG
12th full-up on 7-10-24 with 13.716 gal Odom @ 6615.2 minus 5972.7 for 642.5 miles for 46.69 MPG
That is a total of 6567.6 miles on 144.996 gal of gas for an overall average MPG of 45.3.

BTW. I live in the Cleveland, Ohio area where the winter can be very cold and the summer hot!

If your HV battery charge is getting low, the ICE will kick in. Also, if using regen braking down a hill and the battery is at full charge, the computer may use the ICE for braking purposes. It is not running, though.

The EV Coach screen will give you an idea of battery capacity. The longer the blue rectangle is, the higher the battery charge is. And when the blue rectangle is almost solid blue, you're almost using all the available battery. If you push the go pedal much beyond that point, it will likely start the ICE, and the display will turn white and show "HYBRID."

I live in L.A. and see very similar MPG. Engine warm-up and high speeds seem to cut MPG the most. Slight hills have a significant effect, either + or -. I've not yet quite managed to get a full tank "indicated" average above 50, but that's just because I had too many short errands starting with a cold engine. Dash reads about 4% higher MPG than measured. Love my Mav.

I believe it as I've seen impressive numbers off mine. I'm seeing the EPA rated city mpg with highway miles at 60 or 65 mph with some 30 mph zones through town, all electric of course. 50.9 on the readout for that trip when I arrived at my destination. Was a 110 mile trip and I'm betting ten miles at the most were electric.
My math at fillups using the odometer and pump is usually spot on or off by a few tenths.
I tell others this and they look at me like I'm from Mars or are stupid or something but no this truck is easy to get high numbers with if your smart.

I was calculating my hybrid mileage at the pump for a while. Worst one way was I got four miles a gallon less than what the mileage showed. Worst the other direction was I got three miles a gallon more than what the mileage showed. Sometimes it was spot on.

Hypermiling= driving like you have no brakes. I keep the engine power usage 10% or less. No quick acceleration. I coast in neutral on downslopes. My last tank lasted six weeks and it was my first time in the 700 club.
