Hybrid Default Oil Filter - FL-910-S or FL-910?

It appears that Advance Auto Parts sells the FL-910 (missing an S) filter. I was wondering if this is the same thing as the FL-910-S filter recommended by the manufacture manual?

Interesting question. Someone asked the same question on Amazon and got these answers:

1. The Motorcraft oil filter FL-910S differs from the FL-910 because the FL-910S comes with a silicone anti-drain back valve that helps reduce the time that the engine has no oil during startup.

2. The "S" is for use with synthetic oils. If you use syn oil the fl910S is the filter for you. fl910 is for conventional oil. From what I understand there are additives in Syn oil that can dissolve the inner workings of a standard filter.

3. No difference.

I would think the one about the silicon anti drain valve is the best guess.

I looked up on Walmart but can't find the Motorcraft ones. They do have other brands claim to fit just fine.

Quite often they don't. However, the Motorcraft FL910S is the correct filter.

Part number on your 910 link actually shows 910S.

I'm not even sure a 910 exists, its not listed on RockAuto. If you search for FL-910 on Google every link is for the 910S

A local dealer handed me FL-910-S, and it is also what I saw on the shelf at Walmart. I didn’t see one without an “S.”
