New to truck ownership. Are the tie-down loop wires sufficiently strong for securing something with ratchet straps or should I look into installing a bed rail?

You can pull something like 300 pounds side to side or 500 pounds on the diagonal.

More than this and you risk bending the truck sides out of square.

Read your owner’s manual. Page 263.

https://www.fordservicecontent.com/...Maverick_Owners_Manual_version_1_om_EN-US.pdf

“Maximum force between directly opposed cleats 276 lb.” “Maximum force between diagonally opposed cleats 600 lbs.”
“Maximum force between tailgate anchor points 400 lbs.”
“You could damage the pickup bed if you overload the tie downs”
“Do not secure cargo with tie downs connected from the tie down brackets to the cargo box tie downs. This could cause the tailgate to detach”

Due to the possibility of the above mentioned bed damage, it looks to me like installing cleats will not raise any of the above tie down force capacities.

Bed rails are not nearly as strong as the provided D rings. Don't ask me why I know.

The D rings are also sharp and will cut through cheap ratchet straps, use slings or shackles. Cam straps are a better practice than ratchet straps for this truck.
