How concerned should I be with offset and wheel width in snow

i'm looking at replacing my XL Hybrid steelies. Keeping the Contis. I live in Michigan and want to make sure I don't make the performance in the snow worse. How much worse would it be going from a 7" to a 7.5" wheels. I know the wider the worse the snow traction. Also one of the wheels I like has a 45 offset, will that affect snow performance? I have been limiting myself to wheels that are only 7" with a 38 offset, cause I don't want to ruin performance, but that greatly limits the selection of wheels.

The width of the wheel isn't substantially going to affect the actual tread width at the point it contacts the road. A 7.5"@45mm offset isn't that significantly different either. It's when you get to real massive positive offset wheels/spacers pushing 1" of poke that you're throwing the scrub radius way out of whack.

The wheel offset difference is 7mm = 0.275 in.
0.275in * 2 = 0.55 in
Which is very close to the wheel difference of 0.5 in.
So the tire’s center contact point would be the same.
