Hi folks. Last Saturday night a drunk driver splattered my 2023 Tacoma.
Ford Maverick Hi everyone... Prospective owner here 1000012320

It was parked on the side of the street, and he knocked my truck about 30 feet forward, and 10 feet onto the grass/sidewalk. This will NOT buff out. Luckily I was about a block away, and my wife and I were unharmed.

So I'm very seriously thinking of buying a 2025 XLT FWD Maverick hybrid, Ford Gold CPO with about 15k miles. I'm really excited about the truck, and for what I need, I think it will be perfect. Thanks for letting me in and I hope to learn a lot from everyone,

Wow, I'm sure sorry your Taco got a little scratched up! I've had my hybrid Mav for about a year and a half now and have been happy w/ it. So far a perfect vehicle for our needs. Good luck!

WOW. So fortunate you were not in the truck. Was the drunk driver OK?
The Maverick has been a perfect transport. You may appreciate the low entry (my wife does), surprising roominess, and fun! I have a MY24 XLT FWD hybrid and loving it.

I was told the drunk driver was fine but was carted off to jail. He was driving a dually crew cab Ram - I'm sure like a 3500. Mine was the 4th or 5th vehicle hit down that block.

Glad for both… he’s ok and he’s in jail!

Yeah, for a bit I was hoping he busted his nose or something, but I don't want to wish bad stuff on anyone. I just hope he gets help. I was told he had multiple DWIs.

Think carefully about your decision. What made you buy the 23 Taco when the Maverick was also available? The Taco is a mid-size truck. The Mav is certainly a compact truck.

If you want to tow, the non-4K Mav has a towing capacity of 2,000 lbs. With the 4K Tow Package, well, 4,000 lbs. 4K cannot be retro-fitted.

Do you research on known issues with the Mav Hybrid.

Wow, hope you find what you need for a vehicle....the Maverick wouldn't have survived that "brush" with the Ram either :)

Thanks Joe, always good to have a voice advocating for thinking through decisions.
I'm not going to go thru all of it, but the Tacoma was my 3rd Tacoma. 2008, 2018, and the 2023. Excellent vehicles, but much more truck than I need nowadays. I'll do some more research.
Thanks again!

One door closes and another opens. This is a "love our Mavericks" club and there is no doubt you will, too.

I also have a midsize truck and am hiding in the bushes for a Maverick. I've been on a "right-sizing" mission over the last several years. Used to have an F-250 crew cab long bed 4x4. Basically the longest non-dually pickup you could buy at retail. Sold it and bought a D40 Nissan Frontier because it has everything I need and nothing that I don't. In hindsight, I "needed" that F-250 so infrequently that it would've been cheaper for me to rent one from Enterprise Truck Rental than own mine.

Now, much like it sounds like for yourself, I don't even need the capabilities of the Frontier. Driven less than 1% of the mileage in 4WD. I was so intrigued by the Maverick that I was about to preorder one back in 2021. Glad I didn't because I really wanted hybrid and AWD, which wasn't available at launch. But even as FWD only, no other vehicle in my opinion comes close. I can't think of anything that is factory-rated to tow 2-4K, can carry ten sheets or more of plywood or a washing machine and dryer or two motorcycles and 2-4 passengers, and get upwards of 40mpg and 500 or more miles per tank.

The '25+ Maverick XL, hybrid 4K tow (which includes AWD and CoPilot 360 by default) fits the bill perfectly for me. I even find the basic XL seats super comfortable, and I thought I could never own a vehicle without power seats again.

Fortunately I've had the opportunity to long-term drive a pre-refresh Maverick hybrid FWD as well as I recently drove a '26 XL hybrid 4K tow for about 500 miles, so I'm confident in my choice.

Good luck on your search and sorry about the Taco. Last bit that I could suggest if you haven't already considered it is to find an analogue at CarMax and go check it out. Even if it's not exactly the configuration you want, I think it's still worthwhile because CarMax lets you go on a solo test drive and spend basically as much time as you want with the car after you come back so you can really look it over and try all the buttons and hopefully get a good feel for it.
