Everytime i start driving, the engine seems to stay on continuously due to "Heater Settings" even when stopped . This drops the mpg drastically as it seems the hybrid system does not kick in at all. It takes abt 5-10 mins of driving for the hybrid system to become active,
I tried turning off cabin heating....but it (obviously) did not make any difference.
Is there some other heater setting for the hybrid battery?

I'll run the defrost for <1/4 mile then turn the HVAC off entirely (heated seats and wheel help here) and that usually has it switching over to Hybrid mode by about 3/4 to 1 mile like normal. I keep the heat off until it gets up to 2-3 bars on the thermostat and then turn it back on. By then I'm to the part of my commute where I'm doing 40 mph+ so the engine is running enough to keep up with the heat demand.

You are asking for heat, where does the heat come from? The engine, so if you want heat, then the engine needs to run, to supply you heat, turn off the heat setting, wait for the temp gauge to move into the normal operating range then turn the heat on (but not all the way up)

As i mentioned in my post, i turned off the heat in the cabin, did not see any change.

There is an auxillary electric heater in the HVAC box - item 15 in the parts illustration:

Which only gets called to operate in pretty limited circumstances. And being only 12V it's not exactly a space heater.

I have noticed my mpg less in my 24 lariat hybrid compared to my old 22 xlt hybrid. The 22 xlt electric system kicks in faster in morning than the lariat wonder if the software has been changed

When using A/C in warm weather, I really haven't seen much of a drop in MPG. Now, running the heat, yes, considerable drop in mileage.
Still, much better mileage than the non-hybrid seems to get.

Slightly off topic, but I really wish the entertainment console allowed for customization of the buttons. I would 100% replace the button for this screen with the Apps or Settings button.

Me: 24 Lariat hybrid - yes, I notice a small drop in mpg when I use the cabin heat. I live where the seat heater is enough to keep me warmed up until the ICE heats up sufficiently to supply heat.

My low outside air temp is in the low 50's and Seattle's is in the low 30's. My mpg drop using the heater is .1 to .2 mpg meaning instead of 44.1 mpg my display shows 43.8 or 43.9 mpg. I am not complaining. 87 octane gas costs just below $5.00/gallon so a hybrid makes sense.

I have measured and heating takes up to 6x the energy of cooling.

Also the temperature span is greater in winter. Assuming your want you cabin "room temperature" summer is closer to room temperature than winter.

100 deg outside is closer to 72 than is zero deg outside.
