Harbor Freight Bed Extender in Use

I built a deck using 12 foot boards, and with the tailgate hooked in the half way position and the extender at its highest setting, the wood had 3 points of contact with about 2 feet of overhang.

Worked out really well, and managed to get 60mpg the 8 miles back from Home Depot.

I have a similar thing. It definitely has helped me overcome any anxiety I would have had losing a full sized truck bed...

I have one and keep it stowed in the bed all the time. I built a deck using 12 foot GC and I maxed out the weight limit on it. I had it down on the low setting and bumped it on the speed bumps leaving the lot.

I had 21 pieces on for each of the three loads and threw on a couple 2 x 10 x 10s one time.

I had 21 pieces on for each of the three loads and threw on a couple 2 x 10 x 10s one time.

I tried it on the lowest setting but I didn’t like the tailgate just being loose and able to bounce around.

Looks good, G! I got fancy and put some pool noodles on mine, to protect my kayak. Then a few locks and such, and VOILA, a $4,000 bed extender!!!

These rigs can be deadly to pedestrians and cyclists at turns (but only when the driver doesn't grasp (or isn't attentive to) how wide that load swings). Please employ these rigs with extreme caution. Better yet, use a trailer. Or follow the example from EJRSFF above where the load is above the head height of a cyclist or pedestrian.

I get that some can't afford a trailer, or don't like them, or can't lift loads, or whatever. Please just be aware of your surroundings and use these rigs wisely. As a road cyclist, I thank you in advance for your attention to my safety.

I'm a recumbent tandem cyclist and plan to use this to transport our long bike, and you can bet I'll be cautious! Can't be bouncing an expensive bike off anything, including other riders.
