Isn't Sand mode he same as Sport mode?
No, sand mode will be more aggressive and divert power to the rear wheels as much as it can where sport is still FWD biased and will only divert when it senses potential or actual slip. Sand and mud can feel a tad bindy on pavement close to how a a true 4x4 would feel.

I think the skid plates on the FX4 are what makes the package worth it, ive had them on my wranglers for the past 20 years even if its only for hunks of ice on the road in winter or misjudging the size of a hump on a dirt road , i have removed them for my oil changes and they are a decent thickness, good protection.

The off road modes also automatically turn off the traction control while in use.

I am also thus far surprised the aftermarket hasn't come up with skid plates for this truck yet. Even more curious is the online parts catalogs don't list a part number for any of the underbody shields whether it be the skid plates or plastic ones on non FX4 trucks.

I got the FX4 for the bigger instrument cluster and tow hooks. Only way to get the hooks. Also figured the wheels would be worth more a easier to sale over the XLTs. More than likely I'm going to lower it with some 19" and street tires and remove the FX4 stickers.

Maybe it is just me...I recently bought the 2024 XLT FXR....

The hybrid that I drove did not respond as well to the gas pedal...I liked the Cactus Grey of the hybrid XLT but the 2 liter's pep was more what I wanted...

The FX4 package ? The wheels...loved the gloss black...the Pirelli Scorpions were quiet on the road....and the seller for me, I live in the mountains...often am on uphill gravel roads...have to move up a long icy paved drive in some winters.

I may not ever off road this truck, but the value and my needs dictated the XLT FX4 over the hybrid XLT.
