**EDITED THREAD FOR OFFROAD FOOTAGE**

Hi, All: Finally had the Mav delivered two weeks ago—more than a year wait, but got bumped to a 2023 FX4, AWD with 4K tow package. Already have 1200 miles on the thing from a trip to Arizona. Had the chance to get her offroad in sandy and rutted conditions. Impressed with the AWD and drive modes, but the 2023 Pirelli ATR are trash offroad (I think). One disappointment so far is the Ford change from Wildpeaks/Geolanders to the Scorpion. Bummed me out...Other than that, family is digging (and USING) this truck.

So far, have the Tuffstuff Overland 40 inch bed rack, Smittybilt Overlander XL RTT, Fox racing talgate pad for the MTBs and a Midnight Forest mountable water tank on the way. Frankly, I'd love to get some Falken WIldpeaks for this truck, but it's going to have to wait. I have a set on my Subaru with 60k miles and they show more than half their life left.

I can confirm that (with minor modification) the Tuffstuff Overland Bed Rack (40 inch) fits the Maverick. You have to use an angle grinder to cut about three and a half inches off the telescoping crossbars—their design uses pinch plates on the bed and pinch bolts on the cross bars...I had some doubts while installing, but it's SUPER solid and rated to 800 pounds static weight. WAY more stable/strong than my Subaru roof rack. FYI that it is on sale for $400 right now with free shipping. More pics after next offroad challenge...***EDIT: We did Otay Truck Trail in San Diego including three moderate offshoots/spurs. Mud/Ruts mode and Hill Descent Assist in the video below...Grade was 14 degrees per offroad screen and on the initial descent you'll see the full trail behind truck which we DID ascend easily. I have additional footage of obstacles close up, but they include my LP so I'll upload when I have time to use an editing program.

Couple more pics for insight into rack and also did the DIY bed rails which have already come in handy...Have some Dakine surf board pads mounted beneath tent because I'm taking the surf board to the Oregon coast in a week...Will take along the 29er MTB as well. Planning to E-DIY onboard air in the bed this week...

Love it. Congrats on the truck and the build.

The Pirellis are garbage in my opinion as well. I went to a real AT tire in less than 2000 miles.

Thanks! Yes...I am already shopping for some Wildpeaks or Geolanders. Have to convince my wife though hahaha...I sure wish they wouldn't have changed that OEM spec...

All good choices. I'd look at the Toyo Open Country IIIs as well. Some of the lightest ATs around.

I was under the impression that if you wanted the wildpeaks you had to choose the upgraded wheels for $725. I believe the base and FX4 don't get Wildpeaks otherwise, exception being the Tremor which does from the get go

Yes—this is correct, BUT I ordered a 2022 FX4 and that one included Geolander or Wildpeak with package. That spec—I believe—changed for 2023 which I was pushed to without dealer telling me. BUT, again, I got the 2022 price somehow and cruise control which I don't think was on board the 2022? To be clear...NOT complaining over here about the truck, but rather the tires they spec'd. Just not a fan is all! Had a pretty weird dealer experience which I plan to detail in a separate thread...Thanks for checking out this build!

22 FX4 came standard with the crappy Pirelli tires, the Wildpeaks were an upgrade with rim package. Within 48 hours of my truck landing last year I traded in my Pirelli tires for Geolander AT's.

Ford cutting corners again. I also have an FX4 and with 4KTow. So disappointed, yet paying $725. for wheels which suck in looks made no sense.

Yeah—it's weird. I DID pay for the upgrade though so...Wonder if I got screwed on that aspect...I am going to look back at my order. Things got wonky when I was rolled over to 2023, I think? That said, truck has so far been awesome.

Looks like a lot of fun and I really like how you have your Maverick kitted out.

I have a 2022 with the FX4 package and have the Scorpions as well. Originally I thought I would be getting wildpeaks but alas people are right unless you purchased the upgraded set of rims in addition to the FX4 package no wildpeaks. You have the black wheels like mine getting wildpeaks with those was not an option from ford. If you did purchase the updated wheels you may want to get on the horn.

Ah, gotcha. I just looked and it was a the 17 inch Unique aluminum wheel. I do NOT see the other tires listed on my order form...Odd. I think the confusion likely lies with me—thanks for the compliments on the truck. Looking forward to new tires and some other mods!

I do agree aside from on the road the Scorpions leave some to be desired which is probably fine for most. Quality tires will make a huge difference. 👌

I did not pay for a tire or wheel upgrade....and I have the same black wheels and Pirelli scorpion tires as you show.
Ford just has so many gimmicks. to charge more for. Do you think that one style of alloy wheel costs them more than another style ? Maybe there is a slight difference in their cost from one tire to another, yet not much. You are still ahead, I'd say, not having ordered the 'upgrade'. If you want other tires, your 'takeoffs' will be worth money to someone.

Yeah—I ordered the full size spare and consider what I got a gimmick. I mean, what I wanted was a swappable tire/wheel...But I was super-naive...Ha. Again, I'm still ahead so I am not complaining about the vehicle. More confounded by the oddities of the ordering process.

Post more videos!!! How do you think a front wheel drive hybrid mav would have handled the off-road you took?
