My wife was driving our Mav ('25 Lariat Hybrid) earlier this week, and pulled in to a gas station to fill up. As she stopped at the pump, she got quizzical glances from a couple of guys at the next pump. Since it was coming in via battery and not gas engine, it was silent (except for the artificial engine sounds), they thought it was purely electric and were wondering why it was needing gas. :p

She had to explain that it was a hybrid, and although it doesn't need gas a lot, it still needs it on occasion. They were very interested in knowing more about the truck, and were very interested in hearing more about the great mileage it gets.

in the early early 60s, my father worked at a gas station, eventually as a mechanic, to put himself though college.

VWs still weren't common, and self serve didn't exist yet. Many owners thought it was clever to ask attendants to check the water.

At least once, my father announced that it was low, and began pouring.

Given that the only place he could be putting it would have been the gas tank, they went nuts as he poured water on the payment in front of the bumper . . .

 The original VWs were the butt of a lot of practical jokes. At my workplace, guys would secretly pour extra gas into one guy's VW tank. He was bragging about how his mileage kept getting better and better. Then they stopped. He took it back to the dealer and demanded they fix it.

What about an average looking woman? Do you need an excuse to start a conversation :p
I don't care if she's attractive, average or even homely looking. In fact, I find the less attractive, the better the conversation.

What were we talking about?
