The manual on my 1.5L Ecoboost Fusion says that the computer will retard the timing with 87 octane to prevent knocking. That adjustment will result in lower HP and Fuel economy.

87 is perfectly fine to use, as your computer will adjust to it. Just keep in mind you'll lose a little power and fuel efficiency.

I typically use 87 because it ends up being cheaper in the long run.

Educate yourselves about turbos, octane and knock. I will 100% be using 91 (93 hard to get here) higher octane gas will be less prone to engine knock and pro long the life of your engine.

Whatever octane you decide to use, just make sure to use a Tier 1 brand for the detergents, additives etc and also top quality oil and filter. Turbos spin fast and get hot, go the extra mile in care and maintenance

Any thoughts on ethanol free? I know modern cars are designed to run on gas-ahol, but didn't know if the ethanol free would be better. That said, I've only seen it in 87.

We have Ethanol Free in 90 and 87 Octane in my area. I only use Ethanol Free in ALL my lawn equipment (mower, weed-eater, edger, blower) because of carburater gaskets and o-rings, along with Stabil fuel stabilizer. But I'm not sure of pro's/con's of Ethanol Free in automotive use. I seen pro & con opinions. Maybe others can chime in. I'm on the fence using it on automotive side.

I've migrated to batteries for all of my lawn equipment. I have a battery push mower as my lawn takes a half hour to mow (slightly longer as my child labor is slightly inefficient). I know with older vehicles, using EF was good because they weren't made for the higher ethanol levels. Just didn't know where the Maverick stood on if EF would be better for it.
