Well, at the rate I am going, I'll be leading the high mileage club before too much longer. I bought my Cactus Gray beauty on January 10, 2022 and after 1 month, I'll tell you all I can about my experiences with it with the 2718 miles I have put on it in a month.
To start, I originally ordered a FWD XLT Eco with Lux back in December. I was on the fence whether or not I needed the FX4 package, and 4K tow and debated adding it to my order, which I didn't end up doing. I wanted Carbon Gray, and out of all the colors, I liked Cactus Gray the least...
After hearing the length of time from order to delivery, I was pro-active by making numerous phone calls to dealers. I told them to contact me if anyone's order fell thru that matched my existing order, or had more to offer.
3 weeks go by, and one of dealers called me to let me know they had a Cactus Gray Eco with Lux, 4K, FX4, and CP360. It had the FX4 and 4k that I should of originally ordered, in addition to CP360. I grunted and growled over the color, and furiously sought every picture of a Cactus Gray Maverick I could. I probably blitzed thru every page of the Cactus Gray photo thread on here within 10 minutes. I think I rapidly conditioned my brain to not only accept the color, but fall in love with it as well.
I called the dealer back, told them I would take it, and within a few days I brought it home.

- Cactus Gray is a polarizing color. It is chameleon like, and changes color per weather, lighting, time of day, etc. I have never received so many compliments on any vehicle I have owned in the 30 years I have driven
- Easy Ingress and Egress. I am 5'9 and a sturdy 220lbs. I don't have long legs. Full size, and traditional mid-size trucks are "too tall" for me, and require the use of the grab handles, or step bars for a comfortable transition in and out of the vehicle. This is very comfortable to get in and out of.
- The under seat storage. I am the grocery shopper of the family, and the first time I went grocery shopping was a light bulb moment for me. I never had a truck before. Do I put stuff in the bed? On the back seat? Nope...the under seat storage and foot wells suited me fine.
- The overall size. It is big enough to be confident trailing full size trucks on the highway, and small enough to park in tight spaces with ease. It fits my family of 4 perfect.
- The AWD and driving modes. I am used to FWD cars. My last 4 cars were Malibu Premier, Focus ST, Focus SVT, Focus ZX3. All FWD cars with some pep. I always outfitted them all with Blizzaks in the winter. With the Maverick, and AWD, it is great having slippery mode for driving confidence in the snow, and sand mode to have a little fun. Additionally, the cluster and animations are cool as well. Well worth the upgrade to FX4.
- The interior. Yes, it marks up easy, yes it scratches easy. However, never before have I looked over the interior and admired the execution of rather inexpensive materials, and make it so appealing to the eye. The orange accents, textured plastic on the doors, as well as the ground carbon gray and stone on the I.P. Very well done for a rather inexpensive vehicle
- The Utility-I have already hauled studs, doors, drywall, bikes, costco purchases, donated goods, etc. I have had hatches in the past, but having this bed is great.
- The affordibilty. I get a competitors employee discount as well as other incentives. Even with that, the Maverick I purchased is $5000+ than any competitive truck from that OEM.
- The ride. I thought by buying a truck, I would be like a ping pong ball in a bucket. Bouncing all over. The Maverick however is very comfortable, and more tame on the road than I would of thought.
- The community here. I came from a very strong Focus community over the span of 2001-2018. This community seems just as friendly, and just as supportive. I look forward to seeing how this group evolves.
- The speakers/FM Tuner. Yes, it is a truck, yes the opportunity for acoustically pleasing placement of speakers is limited. Regardless, the speakers are junk, and thankfully I can forgo the FM Tuner most of the time for XM, by the way of my phone. With FM, I get distortion after 8 or 9 on the volume dial. With XM, I can go past that quite a bit, and have a better quality of sound for whatever reason
- Every bit of plastic that is blue. It is isn't the color. It is the material and grain on the plastic. Had it been a different material with different grain, it may not mar as much, and suck every scrape like a magnet. Here in Michigan, the salt always finds a way inside a vehicle in the winter. The Maverick though, has a super power of attracting dirt and salt on every blue surface in the truck.
- The backup screen. The resolution, the size, the inability to warn me when I am getting close to an object. One of the things I hope are addressed in future model years.
- Towing. I have towed a jet ski and jet boat in the past, with cars that probably shouldn't be towing them. I am looking to tow similar things with more confidence, and less worry
- Hauling my bike. Hoping this year I decide to bike more. I didn't buy a bike rack in the past so I didn't bike as much as I should of. I have no excuses now with the ease of either creating a bike rack, or having the hitch to receive one
- Weathertech Floor liners front and rear. A must item for Michigan winters
- Rough Country Tonneau Cover. Never owned a truck, but figured I needed a cover. So far, it has done it's job
- Personalized plate......do you get it?
- Driver and Passenger Window Tint
- Yakima 4 Place Bike rack
- Removing the FX4 stickers
- Front and Rear Mudflaps
- Maverick Sill Plates
- Do I go low? or do I go higher? I would lover to see this truck on some H&R lowering springs with some aluminum 5 spokes with fatter tires
