Don't use that mechanic again for anything hybrid.

I'll be honest. I don't think ford knew what the hell they were doing when designing this truck out of spare parts. I have been in almost every recall, had squirrels chew up my wiring 2x, had a rock cut my gas line driving to work, and have to get an alignment every year. I've had less times in a mechanic shop for normal routine maintenance than stupid things like the above. Might wait till it's at least out of warranty if not paid off before making some heavier duty mods to it to make a "monster mav"
What are you doing to the poor thing? Rocks cutting your gasline? An alignment every year? Nobody else is experiencing these problems, so its either your driving or going into totally unsuitable rock cuts that are the problem. Squirrels chewing on your wiring is not a problem unique to the Mav - just ask a Toyota owner. Recalls are certainly more than expected, but that's also true of every other big or small truck on the market lately. Just think, you could be in a GM or Toyota requiring a replacement longblock, new transmission, power steering, master brake cylinder failure or a rear axle that comes out at highway speeds. The Mav actually looks pretty good compared to the competition.
I live in Ohio, the land of unlimited construction zones. They keep tearing down and rebuilding roads, which means that there will be all sorts of gravel and loose rocks in the middle of paved roads. The constant potholes and repaving of said potholes also adds on to all the huge transition bumps and steel plates covering work being done in the road. Funny enough, escape owners have the same issue of constantly having to have their alignment redone (hey, isn't the maverick built on the same c2 platform?) And more than just ford and toyota use soy-based plastic wiring, but nobody wants to recognize that these parts should be warrantied for the vast majority of owners who park their vehicles outside, where the little bastards get into the engine bay and cause $$$k in damage. If you look in this forum alone, plenty of other people are having overall similar issues, which seem to be that the engineers that built these didn't check the math or do thorough quality control checks in the 2 years that it went from idea -> design -> concept -> production until after they hit the refresh point this year.
