Hello all,

Yesterday a friend and I did the escape heated paddle shift steering wheel upgrade, along with the escape rotary shifter, dual zone HVAC, and an explorer ST cluster.

I made as built files beforehand and was able to connect and write to most of them, but not the AWD module or IPC, the latter of which being the most immediately concerning as I can't fully implement any changes to make these new parts effective.

Has anyone had a similar issue? What was your solution?

Thanks!

What adapter are you using?
The one forscan currently recommends, the OBDLink EX.

It's been saying "gain security access failed - security key is wrong; service procedure interrupted"

I found a few other places that loading the existing profile in forscan can result in some security key errors, so when I'm back in the shop this evening, I'm going to try restarting the computer, and then not loading the profile when I reopen forscan and connect to the vehicle.

Currently, without being able to write to the IPC, can't correct the mileage on the cluster or put in the final settings changes for any of the other things that were installed. So the only thing that works correctly from the swap is the escape dual zone HVAC. Fingers crossed the above lets me actually write in those modules.

Quick update, closing/reopening forscan and then NOT loading the vehicle profile worked. However, all my as built saved files disappeared. not sure if they're tied to a profile, or what happened - but I can't find them on my computer anywhere - and certainly not in the forscan folder where I saved them.

Heated wheel/HVAC now working properly, paddle shifters functional (*though the manual "M" mode with the escape rotary shift dial doesn't display the gear, and it stays in manual mode once you hit a paddle in D), and explorer ST cluster is also fully functional.

Love this, looking good. This digital cluster is from a Escape?

Out of an explorer ST. The Escape one is very similar, but from what I understand from people who tried to swap that one, they couldn't get everything to work properly. I think that was mostly functional, but there were a few things that didn't work, and errors in the background or something.

Yes, I don't know of any other Explorer ST models. This cluster was from a 2022. The cluster bezel doesn't fit in the Maverick. I have an escape digital cluster arriving Monday because I read that the clear bezel is a slightly different shape and will fit in the Maverick. We'll find out. For now the explorer cluster is bolted in without a cover on it.

How'd you know what to change in FORscan to make everything work? I've got a 25, so I'm wicked jealous of those physical HVAC controls. I'm wondering if I'd be able to copy what you did and have everything work as I'd hope (I imagine your rear defrost button just doesn't do anything?).

yea, we can't get tow/haul to work or turn on/off traction control, a few other things, but from what I heard is that it's built into the firmware but the escape's didn't have tow/haul and the button mapping was different between the models, I've been looking for an explorer cluster so I can get everything working as it should.
