Ford Pass Cellular Data Connection...Who Pays For It?

Hi, so for the truck to communicate to Ford's servers and then to my Ford Pass phone app, the truck has to have a cellular data card connected to some cellular network. My truck does not have a wifi hotspot card, by the way, as it was deleted from the order and I assume due to supply chain problems. What network does the data card connect to and who pays for it? I never gave a credit card to Ford for ongoing monthly charges. I think if you have a wifi hotspot, Ford gives you a couple of months of free data but that would not apply here. So far the truck is five months in service and the Ford Pass data is still working. Anyone know about this?

Ford pays for it...by selling info collected about your driving habits. When something is "free", you are likely the product being "sold".

That's the way of the world these days. I guess that's why Ford gives you the option to disconnect the data stream through the touch screen or pull the fuse on it.

As far as the network is concerned, I would guess it is via AT&T since that is the cellular network the optional hotspot uses.

Ford pays for it until they don't. At some point my guess is that whatever tech they use will become outdated (there were some older On Star types of service that were running on 3G that was being fazed out so the stuff will stop working).
