When I lived in Charleston, I used a diy of this rod holder. It still left space for cooler, tackle boxed etc. I made it so it was lockable.

How many rods do you normally travel with?

You could do the naked roof cross bars from Yakima(as noted in the other thread) and throw on a set of ski holders on them. might be good for 6+ rods or so?

I had a Decked setup in my Ram. I had T-tracks screwed down and used those to mount heavy duty rod holders. I'm going to screw a T-track to a painted 2x4 and use the molded in slots in the bed. Made 3 hour highway trips no problem.

That's what the carpet on the tailgate is for. I'd back up to the lake to catch catfish and just sit on the tailgate. The deck holds a cooler inside and has a bottle opener.

Yes. I traveled I95 and HWY 17 up and down NC/SC coast from Wilmington to Hilton Head with no issues. The poles are in an aerodynamic position and they were secured to the bar. The rods had a rougher ride on the boat than what the highway could throw at them. I almost did two changes: 1. Buy some sunbrella fabric on closeout to make rod sleeves to give a little more protection for eyes and against the sun. 2. Add another bar on railing for rods to rest on along with the bottom bar. I didn't do it because I ended up adding more storage space by putting a Thule cradle on the cab roof which gave the poles more protection.
I see a demand for these, time to ramp up production and sell them. I'll take one for my Maverick if they go into production.

I just confirmed an 8’ fishing rod fits diagonally INSIDE the cab, pretty cool, if you want it locked up. That would be the max length.
Otherwise, I’ll use the rear sliding window….that’s what I got it for, used with a small pool noodle or coozie. 🎣🐟

I made something very similar for my F150 and it works great.

"Fishing Pole" LOL

I probably have (35) high-quality St. Croix fishing rods, but not a single fishing pole....
