Took advantage of the long weekend to get out and see what I could get myself into. And I was surprised with how much I was able to get over and through. Besides catching the hitch a couple times and brushing the underside on a washout it handled it pretty good even getting up on 3 wheels a couple times.

My tent on the other hand definitely needs a different mattress, the memory foam that comes with the Yakima skyrise is way too firm especially as a side sleeper.

I feel the need for a solar shower would be nice for longer trips aswell as stuff like dishes or washing off after walking on sand. I believe that will be next.

As long as my buddy can get his 4runner fixed we will be doing another couple day trip next weekend this time a little more challenging.

Nice! Thanks for the real world story and the pics. A theme among experienced campers is to not take more than you’ll need. It’s always a balance between mobility, comfort, safety, and preparedness. Glad you can get access to such beauty in the Maverick.

Very nice, I did the mount cheam hike 2 weeks ago, and then went up to the upper bridal falls launch site, the trail was so tight for the bronco.

There are so many tails off chipmunk! Looks fun.

Haha, back when I used to pump out a video a day. Rip.

Thanks for sharing. Those trails/roads off the beaten path go to the most beautiful places. A definite reason for the AWD Ice vehicle. Not the place for the hybrid model that’s for sure. You chose wisely. I bet you had a fantastic time. Way to go!

I've slept on it all, from ultralight pads to coleman air mattresses and I will recommend the Hest pad to anybody outside of backpacking. This thing is very comfortable to me as a side sleeper and I'm just using the foam portion (can be purchased as a system with an inflatable pad as the base, I don't see the need for it imo).

I'm not sure if it can fold up in a RTT as it's 4 inch thick foam, but it can be rolled up and packed either way.
