I will be doing my first oil change this weekend, and decided to go ahead and do the PTU, and RDU for break-in purposes. I decided to use Mobil 1 because it is readily available at my local Walmart. My question is... Can I use the same 75W-85 designated for the PTU in the RDU as well, or should I look for something else from Mobil 1 for the RDU?

TIA

Get the MC stuff and it's exact viscosity.

Scroll down to find similar threads with all this info.

Here is the fluids you'll need. The RDU is not the same viscosity and FORD is very vague. Just buy what is specified and get the peace of mind knowing it's the correct stuff. Do not use the same fluid from the PTU in the RDU. I wish we could, but it's not worth grenading your rear differential over a couple dollars.

Thanks for the info. I searched the forum, but could not find a answer to my exact question. You made this super easy for me. Thanks again!

Curious what the manual says when PTU and RDU fluids should be changed?my 14 year old dodges have never been changed and both work well.i have a 52 year old Plymouth and this has been changed once in 52 years.

What motor do you have? Evinrude or Mercury?

Its been discussed but not enough. OP and me have the same question. Of course ford will recommend their motorcraft products and would never suggest another brand or else they'll loose money. Theres are alternatives but very few know what they are. The experts of gear and oils arent in this forum.
