Maybe some of you all can give some advice. A car hit me in the parking lot. I was reversing straight back into my spot, they were 3 spots down and were reversing out of the spot. They didnt see me and hit the front drivers wheel of my truck.

My question: There doesnt seem to be any damage, at least visably it is all ok and the steering is normal. What are the odds that something else got messed up? Attached is a picture of the tire; their bumper hit right where the wheel says "contact" (ironically lol). I dont know a whole lot about the mechanics so I dont know if I should be worried or not.

They were going very slow, i didnt even know if they had actually hit me until they pulled forward a bit and then I could feel the truck shift back into place.

It'll take a second to take it in because Ford is backed up just like everyone else. I am hoping it is all fine and I can stop worrying.

I would get it checked out, probably doesn't have to be at the dealership. The problem with that type of hit is that it basically impacts the transmission through the drive shaft.

Good thing is the hit was slow, and so there's a good chance that nothing was damaged.

It is unlikely he did any damage. Take it in and have it checked out just in case.

If the other person is at fault, always take your vehicle in and make an insurance claim to get it on the record. Best to have it on the record, in case something comes up later that is related to the impact.

If the contact was as soft as you describe, you are likely fine. If most of the contact was only on the tire, it has enough "give" to deaden the energy transfer to mechanical parts.

If everything seems normal while driving, accept your good luck, and motor on!

If something doesn't feel like it used to, have it checked to be sure.

My money is on everything-is-fine.

I call having it looked at a CYA situation. Once it is documented, nothing found out of place at this time, and later you find tire wear or something else not quite right with the truck that is traced back to the impact, you have something to back you up.

You can take it in if it puts your mind at ease, but I would be very surprised if anything got damaged. If the hit was as light as you say it was then I wouldn't be concerned. Vehicles aren't as fragile as some may think. I've smashed the sidewalls of tires against rocks and thought I bent a tie rod for sure, but no damage other than a tiny bit of rub on the sidebiters.

That's the good part about having higher profile tires. The tires provide more cushioning than ones that are lower profile and also protect the wheels better.

Thanks for your thoughts, everyone. I took it on the main roads and highway, and nothing seems out of the ordinary. I ended up getting an apppointment this week to check it out. I will feel much better once a pro looks at it. Be careful out there everyone

Honestly, I don't think you have anything to worry about, but it couldn't hurt to have another set of eyes put it up in the air to put your mind at ease.

Looks like the absolute best case scenario for an impact. Right on the nice cushy sidewall of a tire mounted on a flexible, yet durable steel wheel.

If there's no visible damage to either the tire or wheel, it's highly unlikely that enough force was transmitted to cause any suspension or drivetrain damage. The most I could see the truck needing would be an alignment check to confirm nothing got tweaked.

I park way the hell out in the unused spaces of parking lots. If I can, I park where I can drive out and not have to back out. Why....... 1. I hate door dings and backup accidents that happen a lot (like the OP's accident). 2. It is my exercise plan. I need to walk more so why not when shopping. 3. My wife usually will not go with me unless she can bring her Handicap sticker where we can park in a wide spot, so no door dings and I get another set of eyes to watch out for me.

Proof is that I owned a 2004 SVT Oxford white Cobra Mustang and after 12 years it had Zero door dings or scratches. I mentioned no door dings in my Craig's List ad. I sold it the next day. My 2016 Chevy Volt I sold to Carvana also did not have any door dings. My Maverick will get the same treatment, but scratches will most likely come from me using it as a truck.

I think the OP's truck will check out fine.

I took it on the highway and it drove normally. No vibration, no pull in the steering. I am thinking I am all good to go but will get it checked out just in case

Did you fall out of the driver's seat onto the ground, grabbing the back of your neck and going into fake convulsions? You get a much bigger insurance settlement. But you didn't hear that from me...

I would keep an eye on those indentations on the sidewall to make sure they don't turn into protrusions. If they do, that could indicate tire damage.
