One of the main things I got the Maverick for was so I could get a bike and take it places. I hadn't owned a bicycle in close to 30 years but today that streak ended! Got a nice little tailgate pad on Amazon for about $40 and it worked great. It also occurred to me that this was the first time I'd taken the soft tonneau cover off.

That's exactly what I wanted one for. I have my bike, my little tailgate pad, all I need is a truck

I got the Rockhopper. There was a nice sale on them that I took advantage of.

Why did you take the soft tonneau off? Because bike did not fit?

At first I took the whole thing off. It Second time I realized I could leave it on if the bike was turned to the side. It barely fit, but it fit.

I owned an Aventon Aventure e-bike that I hauled in the back of my Maverick, however, I opted to leave the tailgate down and use ratchet straps to secure the bike in the back of the bed. For me, I’m very particular about preventing dings, scratches, and dents, so I opted not to get a tailgate pad.

Look at the axle on the front wheel. The pad isn’t down far enough to prevent the axle from hitting the tailgate. That front wheel is going to move when you start driving. Not to be negative, but you may want to rethink the tailgate pad and stand it up and ratchet it down.
