Traded in the mav today for a 24 forester wilderness. I realized that I only used it for actual truck stuff like 3 times in the last 2 years since I got it and that an SUV was more in line with what I really need. The mav was basically a car with a huge trunk and with kids in college that need to be moved twice a year, it makes more sense to have an SUV with more space under cover.

My wife got a forester a few month ago and I liked it much more than I thought I would. It's been a very handy vehicle. The wilderness edition has 9" of ground clearance and comes standard with yokohama geolandars a/t's which seem to be pretty nice all terrain tires. Rides nice, lots of features, good build quality. Should be a good "soft road" vehicle.

I won't crap on the mav like some people have; it was fun to drive and I will miss it. It was the nice being able to order EXACTLY what I wanted almost to the last detail and the whole experience was pretty good. But I didn't look back when I left the subaru dealer.

Ford did a lot of things right with the maverick, but the quality issues dogging the brand keep me from unequivocally endorsing them. I had reliability questions about my truck and part of the reason I traded it at the 2 year mark was so I wouldn't find out the hard way whether it would be reliable long term or not. And the time may come when I need to rely on my vehicle to last a long time.

MTC has been a hoot and was crucial in weathering the interminable 10 month wait between ordering and delivery of my maverick. This forum is a lot more fun than most of the other automotive forums out there.

That helped a lot because in addition to it being past time to replace my old car, the maverick was a present to myself for making it through some health issues. Same with the new subaru and I kind of hope I don't have another excuse to buy a new car any time soon.😂

Life is good; it's also short. Enjoy your mavericks!

Just FYI Subarus have been having issues with transmissions shitting the bed lately. Lots of them going under 100k.

My parents have owned Subarus for decades but frankly I'm not super impressed with their long term quality anymore.

I definitely wish you the best but just wanted to drop that forewarning.

They've gone incredibly bland too. Even older folks that were die hard Subaru owners for years are going "wth is that ugly thing?". My neighbor is one lol. Not sure who is designing these things especially the interiors but they seem to be getting worse, and cheaper looking... Cheaper than a FORD lol. I dunno, at this point anything using gloss blacks for bezels is cheap.

Those older ones will never let go of the title and the newer ones gave up before the race even started.

I had a Crosstrek and it was, how to best describe it? Meh. But I never once doubted it's AWD. Very confident behind the wheel of that thing, more so than most 4WDs I've had.

Oh and good luck in your Subaru OP 🤣
Can't say I blame you for not looking back. I don't think I will either when the time comes.

Chose between a forester/crosstrek/impressa and maverick choosing primarily based on price for new driver in the house.

Subarus are top picks in almost all categories and do above average in alot of categories and excellent in AWD as you'd expect.

I've seen a Crosstrek traverse a section of downhill/uphill rutted washed out muddy mile of "road" as well as a lifted land cruiser at 1/4 the size and weight on street tires. I left my LX570 behind traveling with land cruiser instead and watched this Crosstrek have a much easier time than us. And neither Crosstrek passengers head hit the side window in the jostling.

Montana - don't go there.

They've gone incredibly rude there.

Even younger folks are going "wth is this attitude thing?"

Yeah keeping an eye on that. The CVT is the one thing I am not crazy about. I will also miss the extra 70 hp or so when passing on the highway. We do "severe service" fluid change intervals in our house.

Worst comes to worst I'll trade the subaru in too. I had been looking at gen 5 4 runners but the new ones were a bit more than I wanted to spend with kids still in college and I didn't want to go sloppy seconds on a used one.

I got a 24 while they are still available because the 25 with the giant tv screen in the middle of the console is an abortion of which we will not speak. All the manufacturers are going in that direction and it sucks hard.

No idea where you get a comparison of the interior of the forester to a mav. The interior (and overall) build quality is worlds better than the mav and that was the one cosmetic thing that was beginning to irritate me - oceans of blue plastic all scratched up. Gloss black bezels might be a bit dated but still look good to me. I don't really care about that because overall it works for me. To me the interior is reminiscent of the 5th gen 4runner and I like it that way.

I will admit that the subarus are really not noted for their styling. It's clunky and I like it, what else can I say?

Handling and mechanics of the forester are great. It has a huge sunroof which is something I like and use whenever I can. The AWD is one of the best around and that's nice to have in your back pocket when you need it.

If there's a negative for me it's the loss of the extra power.

Just curious, what are you looking to trade into when you get out of your mav?

The crosstrek is a nice, capable little vehicle. I need something bigger to move my kids around at school. but it would suit a single person well. The thing about them is the lower driving posture and this is important.

In the forester you are sitting higher and more upright like in a truck or SUV while in the crosstrek you are lower and more reclined like in a sedan. My wife has bad knees and hated driving in my old mazda 3 because it was too hard to get in and out. She loves her forester in part because of this and I find I greatly prefer to be sitting higher and upright as well.

Her old car was a kia soul and it has good seat height, upright posture and a surprising amount of room in the back with the rear seat down. If kia made the soul in AWD it would be awesome.

The maverick has a nearly ideal height to the seat and that worked out very well for us. For me, the maverick was really just a car with a big trunk (it had a hard trifold tonneau) and was not as practical as I thought it would be.

If your need a truck for truck stuff, go for the maverick. Otherwise the subarus are nice. They are just a bit more expensive but IMO it shows in the build quality.

My son bought a 2024 Outback Adventure and I have to say I really like the vehicle. His only complaint he has is there is not enough storage up front, drink holders etc. I have driven it several times and been thinking it could be a replacement for my Honda CRV. And I am a pretty strong Honda guy.

I have a 2023 Forester Wilderness and a 2024 Maverick Tremor. I like them both. I agree that the base Forester is pretty bland, but the Wilderness is significantly better. Similar to the enhanced features of the Tremor, the Wilderness has better throttle response, handling and the Yokohama tires are great. I enjoy driving both vehicles, but if I had to choose only one to keep, it would be my Tremor. I ththi
