Extremely poor radio reception

I replaced my original roof antenna(7" i believe) with a 13" antenna that came with the pieces to adapt it to any vehicle. It did help the FM reception but I can't tell much difference on AM.
Amazon has virtually every size from stubby 3" to 20" that work on the roof mount. I chose 13" as a guess. I figure doubling the length couldn't hurt.

I remember when I first got my Lariat - the radio reception was poor to say the least(was not overly concerned as I am a Pandora subscriber), so I began looking for antenna upgrades. I went to the antenna location and realized what the issue was, the dealer forgot to install the antenna (I thought it was just a 'shark fin' antenna)...found the antenna in the glove box, screwed it on, and viola!! Improved radio reception AND now, the HD Radio stations were coming in loud and clear!
