Mark,
🤔 You want an Exterior Shade.👍
I understand and that's what I'll try and help with.

More than likely you'll have to search for ones that protect from snow and ice. That what I used.
They work a little better here with extreme heat it's just that they're a pain to put on and take off each time.
I don't know how hot you get there in Georgia.
When I was still working in Las Vegas. I would park my car outside and use the exterior sunshade it kept the glass cooler which transfers heat to the interior.
We've only been to 112° this year. Last year by this time we hit 120°
One of the reasons I didn't want leather or ActiveX pleather seats.
They suck when it's hot or cold.
Good luck

Never considered using an exterior sun screen but that may work even better than an interior one.

I use one of those foldable wire "OO" interior sunshades.folds up with 2 twists, stores behind passenger seat and keeps interior amazingly cool down here in Central Florida.I also have researched the EXTERIOR COVER but what a pain if you use the truck all the time-not to mention the scratches you would get from removing/applying

Any recommendations on exterior windshield covers? This Georgia heat is baking the interior.

I would only consider an exterior cover if it protected from hail.

I know the exterior windshield cover would be a more useful than an inside shield, but a pain to put on/off plus how can we secure it. Now I'm thinking since the Mav will be outdoors all the time here in Phoenix, a full truck cover might be smarter for me. Before the extra garage was added, I covered my ASC/McLaren all the time work or home.

Hank,
You secure the Exterior cover by using the side tabs that are closed into the doors. See the pictures that I posted above☝post #2.
That's what makes it a pain to use if you're just going to run into a store to buy something. If your car is sitting outside while you're at work it's worth the effort.👍

The other thing these covers do is help the wiper blades last longer by protecting them from the extra UV rays.

I like the idea of the external shade. I wonder how effective a ceramic tint would be on the windows?

I have one of these covers, I think it came from Ollie's, don't know the brand. Got it originally for my Ranger and works fine, but it is kind of a pain to use regularly and store in the truck. I use it if I have to park the Maverick outside in the sun for a day or more. I usually keep the truck in the carport nowadays. The first year I had it, I kept it outside regularly to ensure there were no manufacturing defect leaks. I have an interior one I use for when I'm out and about as it's much easier to deploy and carry around in the vehicle.

Ah, ok. Simple security but a bit of a pain. I wouldn't bother if I was just stopping quickly but for a several hour stop I would. It is better to stop the sun before it enters the cab.
